No guilt just an observationShe has a 3.95 GPA cause she puts in the work sometimes you gotta find your own resources to educate yourself beyond what the system provides.Its more who works and who doesnt..... She make oppurtunities for herself to learn She volunteers at the Hospital and cares for people with ADHD ect so start with personal responsability not blame. Study groups ect . People are much more than just achievements yes values and motivation and going above and beyond the system .

Proofs are for mathematicians, coin collectors, and distillers. In science, for example, nothing is ever proven, it's all just theories that ever-increasingly fit the observations. History is worse; it is initially written by the winners, and it takes an overwhelmingly strong appeal by non-partisans to get it corrected. This began after my school days, but even while I was being taught that Columbus discovered America I was amused that he was greeted by... people who were already here. Very often hard proof of historical reality is lacking so we do the best we can and, like science, make corrections as new evidence becomes available.

Things are getting better, but there are still a lot of people vehemently opposed to RealScience or RealHistory being taught in schools. Even some state boards of education still selectively choose books that continue to present "alternative facts," as Kellyanne famously said.

As previously noted by several members, the education system is literally a tool with a core curriculum and used as a STANDARD for a large group of people. It lies on the individual him/herself to fall into the category of being below, meeting or exceeding the established standard. As important as education is, it is important to remember that people must not think life itself is a guarantee. I know many of my high school alumni that went on with college degrees and currently work at Dollar General, Oreilly's or some other non-specialized field they studied as a major.

I am NOT saying anything is wrong with that, but my point is: you or your parents paid big money for a Bachelor's Degree in Science or and end up unemployed or scraping by. Meanwhile, some drop outs or lower tier graduates go on to make very successful careers in random fields. This all boils down to self-discipline IMO. The ability to think outside the box, do your own research and most importantly HAVE SELF DISCIPLINE to learn in the absence of others and outside the established curriculum in today's schools.

Example: My GFs kids are not failing their grades, but I literally asked my 17 year old step-daughter "what temperature (F) does water boil and freeze" She did not know! Number of planets? What does C stand for on the periodic TOE? Nope! She did not know how to send a letter in the mail, where to put the to and from at. The boys did not know how many states were in the US, and they literally thought the hotel we stayed at one time was called "Embassy SUITES (SOOTS)" Yet, they can literally sing along with any R&B or rap song memorized to the core.

Compound all of that with how they text and write, I mean "dey rally no wut dey tryna say but I am told it is wut it is and its a culcha, I'm just trippin and dont understand. So stop buggin dey don't even no wut it is dough. frfr 100"

I was a little bit outcast while in High School, told I was making a mistake back then. In 1995 I signed with the US Army two months after my 17th birthday just after my 11th grade summer break started. When I returned from BT, I did not go back and finish at my high school, I earned my High School Diploma at the local Community College with the AHSD program. Then went full Active Duty after that. I then used benefits available to everyone that serves to take higher education classes. But honestly I think I learn more by absorbing educational videos on Youtube and Google (Online research). I digress... I am now 41 years old, fully retired with a pension and stock returns I invested in and it is good enough to live on and I do not have to work anymore. I pretty much just live an entrepreneurial life buying and reselling to make extra $. Meanwhile...some other goody-2-shoes I went to school with that went on with 4 year College degrees are working 9-5s to make a living. A couple of them are living with their parents still to this day.

My point is, I know and hope some of our younger generations might read this. Do not be discouraged! Do your best to meet or exceed every challenge, great or small, your teachers present to you the BASICS and then it is on you take the personal time to expound upon that. No matter what path in life you choose, just do your best and do not accept defeat. Everything you do now in life will affect you for the rest of your life.

Love your avatar pic. And thank you for your service. I was not in the military and would not volunteer because I recognized that I could not follow orders unquestionably. I played the bugle in an American Legion marching band as a kid and being a perfectionist, mastered the old surplus bugle I was issued. There was a shortage of military musicians to play taps and it was before they used recordings. I was chosen to play taps on memorial day several years in a row, going from one dedication to the other all day. At one dedication, after playing and still standing at attention as the family passed, a family member of a hero pressed a $20 bill in my hand. This was in the mid- 1960's and it was a lot of money. At the end of a long sun-up to sun-down day for a kid, I told my marine sgt father about the $20 tip and that admission got me the worst beating of my life. I later donated the 20 to a veteran's group.

My wife is a retired elementary school teacher. She does not miss teaching although I know many of her students were very special to her. A few still correspond now, in college or working with families. The problems with education are many and complicated. A very big problem is the kids and the family they come from. ( This is an entire other issue that needs serious help. )Zero discipline, zero respect, no moral character. The system coddles their behavior and now you literally have the monkeys running the zoo. A few can disrupt the ability of the teacher to be effective with the many. Nothing substantial is done to curb bad behavior. Other kids see this and join in. Total mayhem, socialism at its finest.

Thank you for YOUR service. I say that not because you physically served, but because you supported the service honorably with your actions. You did more than you realized, you performed in real life for a Veteran that has gone on to greener pastures. Today, many final-rite services are literally performed with a CD player and not with a live bugler. You earned that unsuspecting $20. However I digress, shall not hijack this thread about military service. The subject is education. Thank you sir much respect.

Our son has the perfect brain for school and it was easy for him, never even had to study.
Our daughter has dyslexia and struggled with math and reading and shes a mirror reader.
The public schools dont recognize what they cant physically see or understand so many many kids are left to struggle their way through with no help at all.
Kids with learning disabilities dont become teachers so they never will progress there.
We pulled her out in grade school as they were failing her and we educated her ourselves. She went back for sports through high school but the teachers only deal with kids like her by putting her out in the hallway by herself.
The public education system is a complete failure to most kids sadly.
Keep them dumb should be the motto.
Shes a grown woman now and has a great life no thanks to her schooling.

My daughter is also dyslexic. She got her Master's degree in Science Education. in her classes, now in a special high school, she tells the students she is dyslexic and can't spell perfectly. Each year one or more students gets all excited and says, "I have that, too." She is actually a very good teacher. When they started a special high school for kids most likely to fail, she was solicited by the administrators for that school. She is a motivator, which is probably more important than perfect spelling.

I am convinced that education comes from the parents. If the kids live in an environment where there are intellectual activities, they learn from them. If they live in a dull environment, they don't stand much of a chance.
