This Benj Pike and Sons, US Navy telescope has been in the faminly forever.
We don't know any history to go with it. I learned that Benj. Pike and Sons were in business in one form or another from 1841 until 1867. It is 27" long contracted and 38" extended. The word "Day" is inscibed on the extension piece, while Benj. Pike and Sons is inscibed on the adjustable piece. US NAVY is inscribed on the adjustable piece.
Inside, the number 10 is stamped on the adjustable tube and written with pencil in two places on the wooden tube.
Does anyone know more about this telescope?
Thank you
