Just curious I no you all have an opinion. Is the dollar really in serious decline, used to be backed by gold or some precious metal. Since Nixon years I believe citizens where required to give there gold Back, yeah right or get disciplined. Older folks than myself please tell us the real story once and for all I could be wrong educate us all, history is very important they don’t teach how the monetary system works. School teaches us how to get a job but not how to make money that’s what a teacher once told me off the record I appreciate honesty for those that aren’t scared to be honest. Thankyou monetary system what happen.

Gold was taken away by FDR in '33. You could keep $100 in gold, no more. In '61 the gov't said you can't own gold in foreign countries. Silver taken away by LBJ in '64. Private gold ownership restored by Ford in '74. Our money is backed by good intentions and unicorn farts. Gary

I think the current shortage is just logistics - the coronavirus shuttered the Mint for a while and kept shipments to and from the Federal Reserve banks. To your other point, though, we really had a better monetary system when our currency was tied to silver and gold. For example, in 1940 a gallon of gas cost about two silver dimes. Today, a gallon of gas still costs about two silver dimes. Now our government can just print money out of thin air, sunshine, and happiness.

By the way, I am going to turn in two years' worth of detected and tumbled clad tomorrow. I'm sure that will help alleviate the national change shortage!

Yesterday's standards, 1920, you could buy a wagon load of groceries for a $20 gold coin. Today's standards you can still buy a wagon load of groceries with the same $20 gold coin, but NOT with a US $20 bill. Go figure.

Went to my bank today in Connecticut for four rolls of quarters for laundry and was told only one roll for me and one for my friend.

Went to Taco Bell the other day, the gal couldn't give me exact change. Walmart only had cash at three lanes.

Seems like a coin shortage would increase the value of coins? Scarcity = value? Probably not in this case, lol.

Between the mint shutdown from the rona and people spending less cash, coins are evaporating. Luckily we find plenty in the field!

Yeah we're getting that here. Our downtown convenience store put up a sign sayin if payin cash and not exact change you must round up, with the extra goin to some charity. (Not round down) All us locals raised hell. Do that to the tourists, but we supported you guys when they shut down the county. They told us they wasn't getting nothin in change from the banks, so we all got together and started bringing them change. Apparently a lot of us here just have that lying around. Sign is gone now.

I believe the coin shortage is a set up. It's the first stage of a big plan to a abolish cash and get everybody forced to use digital currency. It's all about control. The clad coins in circulation
today are not a legal tender, they should be in gold and silver. Since 1965 the coins being minted in the USA are in violation of the U.S. Constitution.

Article 1,Section 10 U.S. Constitution says: "Make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts."

Coins are too much of a pain for the government to deal with. Physically moving them around all the time is very expensive. That's why they'd love to get everyone to use only plastic.

That's the main reason why casinos don't use coins any more. Got too be to much of a hassle and expense. You win and the machine spits out a slip of paper. Yippee! Probably why I rarely play video poker now. They took away the thrill of the coins clanking into the till. Not much fun now...

One slight problem.

Cashless system is even worse than cash when you think about it... disease spreading way to pay.

All this "touchscreen" is coming round to bite itself in the arse... thanks to covid people are looking at touch pay stations a little differently now.

The average dollar may be spent several times over in a day.... a touchscreen / pen etc can be touched hundreds of times an hour.

Unless people all of a sudden started hoarding change which I doubt, instead they are probably searching the couch cushions for change because their business's were closed and they are using up their change to pay bills. So it is my opinion this is a B.S. story we are being fed to switch over to a cashless society, after all the same amount of change is out there as when this virus started.Unless Aliens came down and took off with all our change.

Well, I'm going to take my change to the bank on Monday and end this coin shortage!!!

I figure at least half the folks here are just like me. When I come home from town, I take my pocket change outta my pocket and throw it in a jar. Been doing that all my life, and along the way there came times when it really came in handy.

My 6 years here - that added up to $105. That's money I didn't miss. It's not much, I don't spend that much money anymore - gotta have it to spend it.

Ya know, got this coin shortage, and realistically I bet my bank is actually going to hate me for cashing it in.....

exactly - me and my gal drop our change in a jar and now and then we will change in -pun intended - and use that bills toward a trip - either food or gas or a night stay
my grandmother used to have a huge jar and would never touch - my father had a huge jar too- huge cosco pickle jar
so i believe aa lot of people do this
I dont clean my clad anymore and have all kinds of containers of coins - all i do each year is cherry pick the ones i can pass and they go into the
travel jar - i used to tumble and scrub them - no more - maybe when i retire

when i get change from anyone I would tip at a small joint like from a coffee shop - i will take the change always and just give them a dollar
i see people that get something for like $1.85 and they will just drop the .15 cents in the jar - i give them a dollar
people at small spots ive gone to for yrs know this and appreciate it - just the other day i went to bakery Ive gone to for 20 yrs
and got woman I usually get and i watched the customers before me gave a nickel or 10 15 cents and she says thankyou
but she knows i give her a dollar or two depending on what I get that day and I get the best greeting and goodbye and thanks
I have great respect for those that serve the public - its a job i could never do
Ive seen other people near me crap on their servers and at times have stood up to them for them - because the servers or even managers
could not - a few times customers were *****ing about everything even their water and waitress started to cry then they yelled
at Manager who tried to appease them but to no avail - they said they were regulars and always seem to have a problem
i sat there and listened for an hour of them complaining - i could see in others around them rolling their eyes at them too
I finally stood up and said -well yelled "If you dont like it - then why do you come back - get the hell out and dont come back"
they didnt dare say a thing back and as they left I got a standing ovation and manager quitely thanked me as well did the
waiting staff and my group got free desert
Im a good tipper as long as you dont completely screw me - but I always take the change and round off to the next dollar
