yep, but I never swell up like that from them....paper wasps/bald faced hornets do that to me though.

yea Very odd ! Usually a Yellow Jacket Sting is like being Pricked with an Electric Wire for me.
a Little Scratching with my Fingernail & I'm over it.

Hopefully you haven't Gotten an Allergy & It was just a Freak Bee

Maybe some benadryl, too.
May want to call your doctor, he'll give you shot of benadryl.
(I forgot, covid, are we still in a pandemic? scratch that, no doctors...)

I hope you ain't allergic! Or, developed an allergy to them!!!
Chew tobacco, or even a cigarette, wet it a little with water (we used to just spit on it,
but don't, be/stay clean, use water).
Plaster it over the bite, band-aid it on, duct tape, whatever tape.
Something about tobacco, pulls the poison out (what we were always told).
It'll only hurt for few hours vs. days....

Works for regular wasps and bees...
Guess we'll see.... good luck with that one, OUCH!

Ouch in deed. Looks like a severe reaction to me. Perhaps you better risk going to the doctor. They take precautions at the office. Wear your mask!

I have several stories of not just yellow jackets but of multiple types of stinging flying things.

Nothing like detecting and you are listening in head phones to realize when you look up after seeing things flying around you that you have just walked under a massive nest of hell.

I came very close to death from 2 Yellowjacket stings when I was 11yrs old. Had to take shots for a year and a half after. I am no longer allergic, thankfully.

Had a nest of them tear me up as a 7 yr. old kid. No reaction but very clear unforgettable "memory".

Local farmer just died from a bee sting, they found him dead half way to the truck, they think he was headed to his truck for a epiepen...

Now you need to get tested by an allergist, carry an epipen everywhere and carry Benadryl. I am also allergic, hence I only go places like the beach now (w epipen and benadryl in tow) . The way my allergist explained it, the next sting will be the same, worse, or maybe even not as bad but don't count on it.

Stings can actually be "two steppers" like Toecutter mentioned in his post. One reason I don't dig in grass or woods this time of year, just some beaches and maybe a dozed spot or two.

Damn! That looks like it hurts! Fortunately for me I'm not particularly allergic to yellow jackets or bee stings. If I get stung and it looks like it is going to be a problem I usually take a Benadryl, but that rarely happens. Hope to see your sting getting better fast!

I swell like that from fly and ant bites but fortunately I am not allergic to yellow jackets. A couple years ago I had them crawl in through an electrical conduit hole and set up a nest in my basement drop ceiling. Went from none to hundreds flying around literally overnight. Insect spray on the windows killed some but I had to wait until it got cold to remove the nest and get rid of the rest. In the interim, maybe six weeks or so I put on a bee suit to vacuum up bee carcasses and do things like laundry. A couple of stings but considering it wasn’t bad.

Thanks all.. I went to the local "doc-in-a-box" and they just gave me oral Benadryl and said it was just a local reaction. They didn't seemed to be too concerned. Guess it will eventually go away, but I haven't noticed that the Benadryl has had much effect yet.

Get you some tobacco on it!
It will lessen the pain of it.

Last time I got stung, bout 10 yrs ago,
was painting the underhang boards around a house.
A wasp popped me good, right on the underside of my wrist.
Got a cig, wet it, duct taped it on, kept painting...
a few hours later, couldn't even feel the sting.

I learned this, when I was 9 yrs old, ran into a pack of wasps.
My dad stripped me down to my undies, checked for stingers,
then put little tobacco spit balls all over me. I had about 13 stings.
Him & Mom both were very well versed, in tobacco.
She was stringin it, at 3 yrs old, for 2 pennies a day, in 1923.
Unless you're allergic to tobacco, trust me and try it...
You got nothing to lose, but the pain.

when you get a moment research Plantain , it's a common weed that really helps with stings .
it grows wild just about everywhere in Va.

I've had a couple of mishaps with yellow jackets over the last few years. The worst part is they hate the sound my AT Pro makes and always sting the back of my left hand and arm! Nothing worse than multiple stings on your dominant hand! Fortunately, I'm not allergic to them, but they still hurt for days.

Creskol, the defintion of what they said is that it is a local ALLERGIC reaction. A systemic reaction would continue with either a skin type, hives, rash, or vascular type, where throat constricts, BP drops drastically and you can literally fall over dead. Yes, most people do not die from bee stings, but 40-80 people die each year in the US from them. Many, many more are hospitalized. Many, many many many more have what you had. I had to go the hospital twice for stings. If I get stung (it's been years now), I'm super careful, I take 2 benadryl immediately.

Not sure if your arm itches but when I get fly bites they itch/burn like crazy. Very hot compresses or soaking your arm in hot water for a few minutes will relieve the itch. Also along with the Benadryl I always take a pain killer like ibruprofen.
