Looking for prospecting advice for the Placerville Ca area.

Hello! Im' looking for advice on a place I can go to in the Placerville area to practice setting up and using my sluice box. I recently bought a 50" folding backpack sluice but I have never used one before. I have watched a number of videos on youtube on setting one up properly but it has been difficult locating a spot that's not on a claim. I am looking for an area on the south fork american river or a local creek with enough water flow. I am not looking for anyone's hidden spot, just an area you might have noticed that might be a good place for me to set up and run material through set up dams and get water flow right so when I do locate a good spot I'm not figuring out all this there. Also I found a website named diggins with lists and locations of claims. Does anyone know if this site keeps information up to date? I would hate to get to a claim they said is inactive then find out i'm on an active claim. Thanks!
