I pick up lots of potsherds, broken glass, pipe stems and bowls, ceramic insulators, etc etc...
After my war and peace box is full they become mosaics. 20210305_091142.jpg
Some are special and hold memories of great digs and even better finds !! The one pictured is a special spot in harbor island bahamas. All the chips were found there and I was encouraged by an artist on the island who was well known for her potsherd art and coffee tables made in this style. This is a great way to justify what we all seem to do as treasure hunters....and thats bring home these little treasures that no one cares about. It is a great way to preserve history for everyone to enjoy...and a great way to date sites and remember them....otherwise they are just forgotten history. I have gained immense satisfaction doing this and am almost always happy with the end result. Guess I'm due to make another.....my box is full and overflowing!! Happy hunting folks and thanks for looking. 16149545071707369406598188241357.jpg

What is holding the shards in place? I looks like mortar. Glue? Epoxy? I'm going to make one of those. I find way more broken ceramic pieces when I'm out detecting than I do coins, that's for sure. Good idea Bart. Gary

Mortar mix gary.....plywood back with a wood frame to hold it in. Pour in mortar mix, arrange pieces and immbed in mortar, sponge clean and let dry. Makes a nice memory of the different sites we hunt !!
Cheers mate:occasion14:

Very nice. I like that display case. Kind of reminds me of the Epoxy Door I made with items I found while detecting. I like the pottery shards idea.

What a great idea Bart, the pic with the bottles you found on the shelf is beautiful.
I too have a box full of my more interesting pottery and glass shards found in the fields.

Nicola White is a mudlarker and artist in England who creates amazing works of art with her finds, I was thinking about mailing my finds to her to be made into art. :icon_scratch:

Liking it Bart, very cool.
It really shows off the odd eyeball finds we all tend to see while out and about in our seeking out of different treasures.

What I don't see any little sharks teeth in the corners-:laughing7:

How long do you have to work with the mortar mix?

Made one yesterday....not my best work....tried to dye the mortar mix, and it got to dark for my taste. But it has lightened up some this morning. The clear glass and dark mortar are not the best combo. Still a decent piece of art with some great detecting memories !! Sometimes I drink 2 beers at the same time when im feeling artistic !!

Pretty forgiving pepper....I'd say 45minutes to an hour to arrange and set the pieces !!

I'm actually surprised you have the free time to create these works of art with everything you have on-the-go Bart. :laughing7:

I've been building a skiff to get back out wreck hunting....yesterday I had a bunch of fiberglass work,....so as the glass work cured and set up I had time to make a quick little mosaic with some scrap wood pieces.....stress free time...art, beer, and the radio recharge my batteries !!

Thanks for showing the process, Bart. The clear glass does get lost, somewhat. I wonder if you could use something white one the raised parts to make it pop a little? ??? :icon_scratch: :dontknow: Still pretty dog gone cool looking.
