I took my old beat up 22 rifle to high school woodshop. Took the stock off & refinished it. It was in school over a week and this was common for guys to do. Teacher helped out.

Yep...but in those days you didn't have kids around that have been
raised on video games instead of playing outside (God forbid the
kid gets dirty!). Back then your dad could bust your butt with his
belt as punishment, and not even go to jail for it...not so today.

There are virtues that we were raised up around..respect for others,
respect for your parents, honor, integrity. We took care of things because
we may not have had the funds to replace them. Back then those things meant
something, and where ya came from was irrelevant. They still do have meaning
to some folks today, but for the most part they don't amount to diddly squat
for the younger (under 30) generations.

My Ruger 10-22 was in my truck gun rack everyday I drove to school.

My dad said he could carry his deer rifle on the bus as long as he left it with the principle while at school.

That kind of illustrates my earlier point. We have social problems with the youth we are bringing into this world.

This reminds me of my high school days,late 60,s early 70,s.Wasn,t much to do here in winter except go hunting,which my best friend and I loved so with several hunting seasons open at the same time we often had in my car two deer rifles,30-06 semi auto and .264 Win.Mag,two twelve ga. semi auto shotguns,two .22 rifles,at least one 22 semi pistol,a 1911 .45 auto,a large selection of knives,machetes,axes,and enough ammo to last a fire team in a moderate fire fight.This was not unusual for the time and place to include several of our teachers and our principal too.We had the usual amount of teen angst,broken hearts and rivalries but never did any one resort to the weapons so readily available just a few steps away,no suicides either.So don,t tell me that availability of weapons is the problem,it don,t get no more available than that,to include that most of the girls had a knife of some kind in their purse.Just saying.
