This is my first post.

I recently purchased my first metal detector, a Tesoro Tigershark. I decided to go to Atlantic City and hunt on the beach in front of the Taj Mahal Casino. I found 2 quarters and a penney.

Is there any better place to hunt than where I was? I would like to get some tips if possible.

Also, is my Tesoro Tigershark a quality detector? I bought it used.

Thanks !! Chris

yes it is -- if its working properly its a top notch machine ---give yourself some time to learn your machine and how to use it properly --- it takes time like any other skill to learn to do it "right" --- location is of course highly important when it comes to what you'll find --- but so is the skill of the person using the machine ---- Ivan

Chris,
Welcome to TreasureNet-the best da__site on the web. As for your questions. The Tiger Shark is a terrific machine. I see that Sandman already answered better than most of would ever be able to do, listen to anything that guy says . He's a well of good information on machines and techniques.
About finding things at Atlantic City- I only hunted there once two years ago but did fairly well. You've got to remember that this time of the year isn't the best for NorthEast beaches, too few people using them. Use this time to practice with your Tesoro until you feel comfortable with its sounds and feel. The finds may be sparse at first but as you become familiar with your 'tector the finds will get better (especially next spring and summer when the jewejry wearing tourists hit the sand!)
This is also a good time to talk to security at the hotels. They take a dim view of most detectorists on "their" beaches. Get to know them and they just might be nice to you come prime season.
Good luck. Keep checking this site for good advice.

Thanks Ivan & Grizzly Bear for the feedback. You mentioned about getting friendly with the security at the hotels because they take a dim view of metal detectorist. Aren't all the beaches in front of the Casinos free for the public to use? Do you have to ask before using a detector on the beaches in front of the casinos in Altlantic City?

Chris,
Public only to high tide line. Owned by casino above that. At least that's what I was told in '05.

Maybe somebody who hunts there regularly can give us the final word?
