(This was a duplicate post - I removed the first one - Sorry. :0)

I have "a friend" who recently came across a couple of old Japanese swords. After some research, it is believed that these swords belonged to a person who happened to be living in Japan at around the time of WW2, and that he had buried these swords (along with an old rifle).

They have recently been found, and I believe the rifle is a Arisaka. This one is awesome, because it still has the emblem on it (MacArthur had this emblem removed from every rifle taken during WW2).

The first sword I believe is a Kyu Gunto.

The second one, however, I have no idea about. At first I thought it was a type 98 Shin Gunto, but it really doesn't "fit" in that category. I am stumped.

If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

The pics are too large to post here, so if you can help, please email me at [email protected], and I'll forward them to you. Thank you.

Any way to re size the pictures to 350. Would love to see it.
There are a lot of swords out there.Fakes!

See if you can locate the sword on eBay.How sharp is it? Fakes have been made since the turn of the century.

I have a friend who received a similar riffle from his father. His father found it in a cave during the Korean war. His detail was to go and clear the caves for hold outs. These were the people that had not been informed the war was over. They would fortify themselves in the caves and fight to the death. Most often the US soldiers had to use explosives to end the altercation. Sad!

The sword doesn't appear to have the Clay edgeing design that most old Japanese swords have, but I don't know that much about them. I hope it's authentic! GL!

Nice arisaka! My buddy in Atlanta has one he got from his uncle, he raided my bullet collection when he got it and we managed to find about 6 or 8 bullets for it, it's a great shooter. The imperial chrysanthemum makes it worth a bit more as a collectors item too. The three interlocked rings are an arsenal mark. Here's a link with a list of them : http://www.radix.net/~bbrown/japanese_markings.html

Also the second sword looks a lot older than ww2, I've heard that many Japanese officers carried family swords with them, sometimes hundreds of years old. You should get an expert to check out the blade, you might have a very valuable sword there

Mojave, did you read the thread in "Today's Finds"?

Some guy who just inherited a house found samurai swords and more in a hidden compartment in the floor.

Nice pics Mojove, that rifle is an infantry version of an Arisaka. My dad has the jungle carbine version with the chrys. fully intact. It has been fully restored and is a great shooter. Nice piece of history you got there.
