Explosive device removed from Huntington Park

Fire battalion chief Vernon Porter said a man discovered the device with his metal detector and took it to his home as a souvenir before becoming suspicious it could be old unexploded ordnance. Porter said the man took the device to Huntington Park, where he thought it could do the least damage if it exploded, and then he alerted police.
The park was closed off around 9 p.m. because of the presence of the device.
