For those who want to search for Civil War relics this may be worth looking into. I had bought a book on "The West Point Atlas of War" The Civil War. I found some of the readings and maps interesting so I thought I would share some of my findings from the Bull Run Campaign 2 and 3 of the positions of Bohnam's, Longstreet's, Early's, Ewell's, D. R. Jones, and Holmes' positions on the First Bull Run Campaign: 2 and 3.

Campaign 3 situation 2:00 pm July 21, 1861

Someone in that area may be worth to metal detect for civil war era relics. Below are my Google Earth grid coordinates and who was placed where. You will have to copy and paste onto Google Earth. If I still lived in Virginia I would certainly look into mding there. Maybe worth a try.

If I was President; I would take away welfare! I wouldn't make any bargains with foreign countries! I wouldn't take #@*& from any country! I would close the borders! I would get rid of taxes! I would make EVERYONE own at least 5 guns! I would ENFORCE Finders Keepers Law !!!!!!!!
Stones River Campaign 3 & 4. I read some of my book again. So here are some more confederate troops positions. The grid coordinates are not exact, but they should be close enough according to the maps in the book. This took place in Tennessee.

I am doing some research and will be posting more in the future. I would love to go to some of these places, but I know some are national parks, but the areas around the parks are worth a look as some may be on private or public property. I have been looking on some of the map layouts in my books compared to close to rivers and such and compared them to google earth. The areas are close but may be off a few, but not by much.
Even though some of the sites are where battles took place, still troops around the positions I posted were there for a few days prior, during and some after the battles.

That's alot of research. My bosses property touces the battlefield, but he won't let me hunt. I have no idea why, it's just a wooded area. Go figure.

Maybe you ought to invite him and his wife for dinner and a few drinks and break the ice with him. or sometimes bosses are such asses they try and keep thier distances from thier employees, figuring the employees are trying to make good with them for a pay raise. You could just explain to him you are doing research on the Civil War and you found his property to be on some and invite him to come along with you if he agrees for you to detect and you will share your findings with him having his first pick.

Thanks, I am researching more. I figured if I can't get there I might as well pass the info for someone else. What gets me is a commercial business on top of Fort Granger I am surprised the government didn't make that federal property! According to the Union map that whole hillside was a complete fort at one time. I bet they found a lot of stuff on it when they built thier business!. I bet there are still some stuff in the tree areas as well as the hillside.
