Any leads for the lost pearl ship?

Wondering if anybody had any leads on the lost pearl ship in the old Cahuilla Lake area in California. I've done some research and a little wandering, but it's a big desert. Any tips on good starting points?

From what I hear it is believed to be buried under several feet of sand in the bottom of the Salton sea. It was once buried by sand on land when it was just the Salton Sink.

However, when the Colorado River created the Salton Sea of today, the ship is believed to have been submerged in water once again.
