metal detector on a plane???

I was just at the OK city airport and read the prohibited sign. Metal detectors weren't on the list, but to be on the safe side I'd package them up with padding and check it or ship it overnight by fedex

If you become a Charter Member you would find that this subject has been asked and answered at least once a month or even more frequently.

The answer is yes on the detector and no on the tools.

i thought about taking mine on my paraplane but i don't think i can maintain 6 inches and still swing the coil!

I just got back from Peru with mine. No issues at all. I just suggest you leave the shovel in your checked backage. Anything that can be perceived to be a weapon will be. The only issue I forsee you running into would be customs if you were going to another country. Some countries are more stringent than others, so they may try to charge you a fee, but that is a VERY low chance. The only other suggestion I have is to not have the batteries in it.
