old family homestead

i found out a couple weeks ago there is a old family homestead down in portage, wi.well to find out it was where my grandpa grew up. he was born in 1932 born and raised there. well the property as far as i know is atleast 100yrs old if not more and its still in the family.well about 10-15 yrs ago it was destroyed by a fire. would this b agood place to try see how old it is and its in the family. need some advice.

Go for it!
Find out where the house stood, cellar, etc.
If the kids played in a certain area hit that, family picnics, etc
Where they parked their car, pickup, truck, even worked on them.

Old houses I always start from the driveway to the front door, yard. Then work 20' from the foundation (if known)
and out to 60'.

get that machine out and go! good luck. a burn out has lots of nails and junk but you can work thru it.

wut im waiting for is that its in portage and i need to wait for the water to recede from the floodin and im in marinette so im about 2 1/2 - 3 hour drive for me and the gas prices yea lol
