Whatever the question is, I just tell them it's a ground detector, then look at the ground, and go "Yup, ground".

A few weeks ago I had a guy that was not asking dumb questions but I think he wanted to be my new best friend. I usually always answer peoples questions so at lunch time I was by the edge of the park I hunt and someone walking on the sideway starts talking to me and asking questions. About the hobby, cost, what detector he should look into if he wants to start detecting, etc. I showed him how the detector works, gave recommendations on a good starting machine and the such. Okay have a nice day....Oh one more question well this went on for twenty minutes. I put on and took off my headphones three ot four times and kept looking at my watch. I finnaly said time to go back to work and turned my machine off...walked to the other side of the park and started detecting.

I was noise canceling my detector holding it in the air and a kid asked me what I was looking for.. I replied UFO's..

only stupid answers from those who don't like to be asked Questions.
or those in a strange mood.

However that is the most irritating Question I receive.

my answer is always "No there is no detector that tells
you what is in the ground. some will give you a good Idea of
what may be there, but untill you dig you will never know."

Down at the beach I had a couple of guys with their girlfriends (they were in their mid teens)
start asking me all about metal detecting, and not being smart a$$es or anything, but were
genuinely wanting to know. Their girlfriends were kinda put out by their attention being on me and
not on them. Before I mosied on up the beach both guys said they both were going to get
metal detectors and the girls could do their digging for them and carry their loot. I told them
to let me know later how that plan works out for them.

Back in the day the girls used to call themselves "Car Widows" when us guys were building hot rods.

Whites has ads on TV here now so most folks know what's going on.
