Every year during Dodge City Days our local news paper sponsors a Medallion Hunt. It's a buckle hidden somewhere around Dodge City and clues are posted in the paper daily. I'm looking for some input on one of the clues. I think it will mean something to some of you but to me I'm at a loss. Here are the clues so far.

Monday 7/21 clue:
Area has seen it's time is in decline

Tuesday 7/22 clue:
On the street to gold you will be forced to turn left or right

Wednesday 7/23 clue:
Next to something metal standing straight

Thursday 7/24 clue:
Green and yellow but often red

Friday 7/25 clue:
Just off the four lane you will find the pay line

I'm at a total loss as to what a "pay line" might be. Any ideas/suggestions?

It could be an ATM but I would look for a place where you have to stand in line to pay to get in somewhere like a theater or something. OR is there a toll booth anywhere around Dodge?

Tough to give you any real help because i'm sure alot of references are local. But this is how i'd approach it.

Monday 7/21 clue:
Area has seen it's time is in decline

An area of town that was once in great shape that is now run-down.

Tuesday 7/22 clue:
On the street to gold you will be forced to turn left or right

"street to gold" is there a business around with "gold" or "AU" in it's name near a T-intersection? Maybe a gold-looking building?

Wednesday 7/23 clue:
Next to something metal standing straight

I'm thinking metal sculpture, flagpole, some other straight metal marker, etc.

Thursday 7/24 clue:
Green and yellow but often red

Stoplight obviously, probably one that people think stays red too long, or is in a bad location.

Friday 7/25 clue:
Just off the four lane you will find the pay line

Not sure about this, probably means more than road.

If you have previous years clues and where it was found that would help IMMENSELY.

Thanks

***As mentioned above, but I was thinking that the PAY LINE may be a casino boat or something. Those also usually appear in former areas of decline or unusable areas. Or the deline could also be a downhill to a t-intersection off of the interstate. Metal post? No parking sign or drop off zone sign along the riverfront near the Casino boat.

Just my thoughts

This may be no real help because it's too generic, but that "turn left or right" could indicate a 'T' intersection with a traffic signal. Is there a park with a statue at the end of a street ?

WOAH!
The old bare made an assumption that may be incorrect. Isn't that 'green or yellow but often red' a little too cute? Is there an apple farm or grove/tree in a park ?

Is there a hill in an old part of town? Area has seen its time - old part of town. Is in decline - means going down a hill

Tuesday 7/22 clue:
On the street to gold you will be forced to turn left or right
Okay, gold could be refering to a name with "gold" in it, or maybe a bank or is there a road that ends with a field with a yellow crop? Like wheat waiting to be harvested?

Wednesday 7/23 clue:
Next to something metal standing straight
This could refer to a street sign, lamp post, metal fence post, or a bronze statue of a person standing or a water tower?

Thursday 7/24 clue:
Green and yellow but often red
This leads me to believe that there is a stop light where this road ends at a busier road. So the light would be red longer on the less used road. We have a few streets with smart lights that work like this where I work.

Friday 7/25 clue:
Just off the four lane you will find the pay line
Toll both? Are you close to a Toll road? Or the line at a bank or other institution where you go to pay your bills? Or is there a horse track where there is betting and they have a pay line where they pay off bets?

I'm at a total loss as to what a "pay line" might be. Any ideas/suggestions?

Okay, so what I have is you are traveling through an old part of town, you go downhill where the street ends with a light where you can only turn left or right. You notice the water tower is one way and drive towards it.

This is pretty interesting. Keep us up to date.

Good Luck,

I'd love to help on this because I used to go nuts every fall in Michigan when a guy named Joe Cramer used to have his treasure hunt in Grand Rapids.

I've already checked out a map of your city looking for clues in the street names, but a city street guide will
help you more.

Locals have the best crack at this because they can relate to the clues given.

For your first clue, maybe there's an old building like a bank or church earmarked for demo that has a big clock?

I love these treasure hunts, but that doesn't mean I'm any good at them :tongue3:

Hey, just a thought. The clue Green and Yellow but often red. This may very well refer to a green and yellow sign. If you can think of any signs that are red and yellow that are read often? Good Luck.

For some reason that green&yellow but some X's red makes me think fire hydrant.!!!? I have seen these in the color yellow w/a color and of course the "std." red. Just a guess. Never been in area of the country. D.D.

UPDATE: Help with local treasure hunt

Well the medallion was found, but not by me #*%^#

It was found near a car wash in the south part of town. The "green yellow but more red" clue was a reference to a fire hydrant. In my defense, it is an area I'm not real familiar with.

Thanks for all your input
