Dimes and quarters stopped being produced in silver in 1964. Halves were made of 90% silver until 1964, then continued to be produced in 40% silver till 1970. Nickels were produced in 40% silver from 1941 to 1945 (I think those are the years). Look for the large mint mark over Monticello on the back of the coin.

BTW, I gotta know. Is your avatar a picture of you...in the shower??
We all know there's no such thing as a "hunted out" location. Let's stop using that phrase to describe a park out of which you just dug a pile of coins! Obviously that particular place wasn't "hunted out", right?

War nickels were minted from 1941 - 1945. They have a Large P over the building (Monticello) on the back.

All your other info was correct as well.

    Thanks!

But didn't Denver or San Fransisco produce War Nickels as well?

You should get a copy of "A Guide Book of United States Coins" which everybody calls "the Redbook"
It's got (actual size) photos of every coin ever produced by the US government (as well as some private coins), current prices, years, mintages, metallic composition and lots more
    Indispensable to the treasure hunter!
