After learning more about Native American artifacts, I now believe it is a fossil which was used as a chipper. Both a tool and a fossil.

When you say chipper, do you mean for taking flakes off arrowheads? Rounded quartz cobbles, antler and bone does a fine job of that and they produce very consistent results.

It's a cool rock, I would have picked it up and checked it out.

Welcome to TNet! That is most definitely an interesting find, my first thought was that it looked like one of my horses hooves except all dried up. Did you find anything else made from a similar material?

I posted this find in another thread. Told it was a concretion. I don't think so. What do you think it is?
