Is this an artifact

Don't remember where or when I found this. Was doing so clean up and came across this rock. I think it's been used for something. What are your thoughts. Lighter is for size reference. Thank you

A nice clean nodule of flint that's been creek tumbled. I bet there is a point inside that one. Any knappers near you? Gary

nice piece of flint, the cup is interesting to me its a perfect bowl shape and the size of the nodule is a good fit for the hand.....but I no expert

Fitting ones hand does not an artifact make.

Thats how how hands are designed. Pick up any stone this size and it will fit your hand if you turn it over enough.

This is is a natural Flint Cobble.

I'd have to say that it is an artifact, the sharp ridges of the flaked part of the stone have been pecked to soften them up so it can be held comfortabley and used as a light work hammerstone or grinder. Hard to say which end was supposed to be used and it could be it was made and discarded. I've got numerous rocks that are similar and of a similar kind of jasper too. No creek wear would look like that on that hard of material.

So true. I hate having to remind folks of that. Some try to ridicule me w/sarcasm and say something like, "Yeah, ergonomics had nothing to do with why this piece was made like this". To that I reply, "It don't hurt to be ignorant--not too much anyway!"

Thank you everyone for your input. However we are all in the still not sure area and probably never know for sure. Just a cool piece I'll hang onto and wonder .thanks again happy hunting

Personally I see no signs of being an artifact, looks like a creek tumbled flint nodule.
