no real idea; although the hole/dent along the bottom edge is a somewhat infrequent feature in the area quite noticeable amongst "oddballs" found along the cobbles. am posting these pics for anyone and all to review :

the spot was conspicuously thawed out amidst the snowed-over banks

also; no idea what this little bugger could've possibly been up to, being mid-winter during a sharp cold snap at that. hope i didn't flip over his rock..
