Where to go in Georgia
I'm going to be in Georgia next week Thur. I'll be in the northern part of Atlanta. I'm wondering if there is anyplace to go Within an hour or so of there to dip my pan in the water without getting shot at or getting a trespassing ticket.

Go to dahlonega. Get in somewhere near hwy 60? bridge. I've panned there before.

He is probably talking about somewhere just West of where GA400 ends into Hwy 60. There are a few places where vehicles can be parked there.

Re: Where to go in Georgia
Hey guys thanks for the suggestions, Ill buy a map when I get down there and hopefully get a chance to get my pan wet.
I've been looking around and panning here and there for several years, I still haven't found any gold on my own. I went to the mine in Dalonega and paid to pan some of there dirt, but I'm sure that was salted. One of the other members of t-net sent me a bag from his claim and that had some in it.
Anyway thanks again, looks like I'll be there by Tuesday nest week.

Yeah, most of it is salted. Some with gold not even from Georgia. Here are some of the larger businesses catering to panners in the area:

Yeah, the gold used for salting is bought from communist china.Take 400 north to hwy 60 turn left go 3 or 4 miles to you cross bridge turn into parking area on left . This area has gold that can be found with just a pan, and a fruit stand for some good tomatoes for sandwiches.Pan close to the bridge that way your on state land which is 50 feet on either side of the bridge.Bring #2 shovel, bucket with screen and a pan.
Good luck pilgrim !!

Re: Where to go in Georgia
Anyone ever try Cane Creek? I've panned at the bridge that was mentioned and found some flakes. I panned on the Cane several years ago and got a little piece of either silver or platinum....not sure. Never had it looked at or tested. Would love to be able to find the place again, but can't remember just where it was..

Re: Where to go in Georgia
Strickman, your right that is probably mercury,Cane creek is loaded with it. I sluiced there one's and most of the gold i found was covered with it. There is some nice clean gold, that i have found on the weekendgoldminers properties. It is posted in the photo album under bo1377. That gold is from the '08 dredging season. Great people and properties, awesome gold. I suggest that anybody, that likes prospecting and the outdoors to think about joining.
