Rhyolite is one of Nevada's most historic ghost towns. It's about 15 miles due east of Death Valley and 120 miles north of Las Vegas. It grew up quickly when gold was discovered in the Bullfrog hills in 1904. By 1905 a town had sprung up and soon it was a major town in the territory. Like the story of so many boom towns, the gold ran out and the town was abandoned. The remains of a number of buildings are still standing and the train depot is an amazing example of a California Mission style depot. If you get a chance to visit, you don't want to miss it. You can watch my video if you haven't made it there yet! :-)
