GrayCloud, I am disappointed in you. You are using ad hominem technique to try to discredit me. This is sad, if you have to facts for your statements you have to resort to this? Now for me to give you more facts and show your example about the Sahara has nothing to do with what is happening today.
There have not been several ice ages over the last 6000 years. In fact there has there has not been a change in an ice age for oh 2.58 million years. Now we haven’t even had a change in the interglacial period for about 10,000 to 15,000 years. The last glacial period started around 70,000 years ago and ended about 15,000 to 10,000 years ago. When this ended the glaciers started to retreat. During the time of the last glaciations, the Sahara Desert was larger, then during glacial retreat, the Sahara became green with monsoon rains, then roughly 6000 years ago, the glaciers retreated far enough to no longer influence the Sahara and the Monsoon rains stayed to the south, the rivers in the Sahara dried back up and the Sahara became a vast desert once again.

So please GC, let’s use some facts and not attack someone because of statements you make that you cannot back up.

Here is a good read about the Ice age and last glacial period. http://www.geology.wisc.edu/~davem/abstracts/06-1.pdf

I usually do not waste my time debating one with liberal tendencies, however in this case I will make a small concession.
2.58 million years ago, man did not walk in what is now Europe. There are two ice ages in recorded European history. There have been ice-bound caves found in Northern Europe in recent years, that were inhabited and worked by man hundreds of years ago. There was a minor ice age in the mid to late 1700's. That ice age had a large influence on the outcome American Revolution. Thus what I am getting at, is the fact that there have been fairly fast cold and warm stages in the Earths Yearly Temp Range. And all of that, took place without one single gas or deisel motor in place and power plants were not even a pipe dream.
Man did not and cannot control or influrance the global temp range. Nuff Said.

But during the glacial retreat, monsoon rains fell farther north and allowed rivers to flow threw the Sahara. Glacers retreated, less and less rain fell over the sahara, rivers dried up and the climate went back to the way it was 13,000 years ago. Also if you notice it took a thousand of years or so for the climate to change back and forth. Today it is happening in under a century.
Under a century you say? Has that never happened, ever? Sure looks like there have been some wild swings in the past, (before industrial age).

    Thomas Paine-
"Government even in its best state is but a necessary evil," Paine wrote, and "in its worst state an intolerable one." Like many Americans today, Paine believed that government added insult to injury by using tax dollars in ways that were actually harmful to the public. "When we suffer," wrote Paine, "or are exposed to the same miseries by a government which we might expect in a country without government, our calamities are heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer." To Paine, "securing freedom and property to all men, and, above all things, freedom of religion," were the only legitimate functions of government. Americans generally agreed, and went to war to achieve this vision.

"People whose lives are barren and insecure seem to show a greater willingness to obey than people who are self-sufficient and self-confident. To the frustrated, freedom from responsibility is more attractive than freedom from restraint. They are eager to barter their independence for relief of the burdens of willing, deciding and being responsible for inevitable failure. They willingly abdicate the directing of their lives to those who want to plan, command and shoulder all responsibility." ~Eric Hoffer “The True Believer”

    Re: 6000 YEARS AGO

Once again you guys are getting things mixed up. The massive cooling in the 1700's was not an ice age. Just a pop culture term used to describe a cold period at the end of the warm period known as the Medieval Warm Period. Now here is the thing, the sun has been in a solar min state and is now just ramping up to its max output cycle (11years). We where warming during this period. Also we were in an El Nino for a while and are now in a La Nina. El Nino = warming, La Nina = cooling. We are still trending a rise in global mean temperatures. I think this what many of you are not understanding. This warming is global, just because it is not in Your Back Yard and you cannot directly see it. The earths global mean temp rose during a solar minimum and a La Nina event, this is not normal. Now just think about this, we are nearing the start cycle of an El Nino year, and nearing the Solar Maximum time, and should these two happen to max out together, we could see a global mean anomaly near 1 degree Celsius.

You want Data, it is out there, go look at it, read it. Read scholarly articles, not blogs.

    Here is a paper http://www.gci.org.uk/Documents/Hans...emperature.pdf

If you don’t read it here is there summary
2011 was only the ninth warmest year in the GISS analysis of global temperature change, yet nine of the ten warmest years in the instrumental record (since 1880) have occurred in the 21st century. The past year has been cooled by a moderately strong La Nina. The 5-year (60-month) running mean global temperature hints at a slowdown in the global warming rate during the past few years. However, the cool La Nina phase of the cyclically variable Southern Oscillation of tropical temperatures has been dominant in the past three years, and the deepest solar minimum in the period of satellite data occurred over the past half dozen years. We conclude that the slowdown of warming is likely to prove illusory, with more rapid warming appearing over the next few years.

It wasn't the year with a "mild summer" ---- there WAS NO SUMMER:

If scientists are so smart, why do THEY call it the "little ice age"?

(used wiki 'cause it's easy on the thinking organ for liberals)

Now, the warming we are seeing cannot be TRUTHFULLY and WITHOUT COLLUSION linked to the existance of humans and modern technology.

    Get over it.

It takes a strong man with good character to admit he is wrong. Just something you may want to consider Werleibr.
