Global warming and other political topics
Discuss them, but DON'T discuss them. You figure it out.

Global warming is science related...yes? Throw out the politics and there's still quite a bit remaining to discuss & debate.

I guess you haven't read many of the threads on this board. Not surprising it turns into a political discussion, because it's a hot button issue in politics.

It's dangerous to be right when those with a thimbleful of perceived authority are wrong.
There are two camps. One, believing in it,aligns itself with liberals. The one that does not, aligns itself with conservatives.
The point he is trying to make is that it is nearly impossible to discuss many topics without taking a side, and those sides are all too often POLITICAL.
The very nature of discussion and debate is almost exclusively political.
Most people who raise a stink about something being "political" do it because they DISAGREE with the opinion being presented.

Not totally true. I do know persons who are very conservative who DO believe in global warming, and very liberal folks who don't.

But seriously, guns don't reallly deter crime. Cops only carry guns because it makes them look cool.

I agree, but it has been my experience that the MAJORITY of people subscribe to this.
Just my experience.

The point is, I thought we weren't supposed to discuss liberals and conservatives and what they believe. We just had a mod go ballistic on another thread where nothing political was even going on. So what about this board?

Mods will do that from time to time. It is usually caused by confusion. They are often persons who believe one way, but by the very charge they are given, they must act in a different way, live by a different standard than their own.
Kind of like when a co-worker gets canned for doing the right thing. Perhaps their doing the right thing ended up exposing wrong behavior elsewhere in the company. You don't see the higher up getting punished because he may have something on the boss. So, in order to keep your job, maybe you are not completely honest with yourself. You might think about some of that person's past mistakes and try to reason that they were fired because of those past mistakes, instead of ascribing it to the illogical behavior of others trying to cover their butts.

Funny thing about global warming is that it does have a small bit of science, not science fact, but science conjecture. And that conjecture is, in reality, more of a religion based on faith. So really, it is a cult for the believers,, nearly like Jim Jones. Where everyone believed so hard they did detrimental things to themselves for their belief.
A lack of critical thinking.

Point is.....it can be discussed and debated, and very well, without politics. The possibility of global warming only becomes a political based issue if you wish to become such. Discussing and debating the actual sciences/theories, etc., of global warming has absolutely nothing to do with politics.

In the USA religion and politics are extremely intertwined.
In simplistic terms if one believes that God created the earth, then it's hard for such folk to see how mankind can
influence something fundamental to life on earth such as the climate ( or evolution of species).

Once you bring liberal / conservative, dem / rep, socialism vs democracy and so on into a thread or post it becomes pure politics, just like post that was deleted in the other thread.....
We have seen over and over what happens here when politics is allowed on the forums........It doesnt matter what my political beliefs are and even if I agree with what you post, the owners of TN forum have clearly stated they want no politics on the forum period....It is TreasureNet rules...........
You want to discuss issues that is fine, but keep all politics out of it, if members can't keep the politics out of it, thread will be locked down, if someone insists on constantly making threads political they can be muted or banned.....

Treasure_Hunter, banning won't do much good either, they just come back under different ID's
For many there is a problem in dancing around the topic, there are ways to keep your views vague and general. For a short time you can buy my book "Dancing Around Hot Topics", for just $5.99, plus $10.00 shipping and handling

Spart we can ban ips and search by ips.. we have a lot of tools, but it is much easier for all if rules are just followed.

We are aware of all of that. I have ran gaming servers for years, traced hundreds of ips of hackers using cheat codes, while not easy it is something that can be done. We have banned dozens of spammers using multiple accounts here, there are clues to look for.
TOS would not come into play on someone who has been banned and returned under different name

If you would just use your head and think for a minute, you'd see that it doesn't work that way. Just read the threads.

I didn't say I wanted to. And yes, the owners can indeed have any kind of site they want here, that's a fact. But not long ago you didn't feel that way. Now you're itching to delete the first one who puts a toe across the line. What happened?

KK,
I have always felt politics should be kept off the TN forum boards, it causes way too many problems and many times in the past was an embarressment to TN..... I have posted a few times on political threads when it was allowed, but I have always felt it was wrong to have it here, The other moderators, especially Jeff can vouch for that....
Our rules are what makes TN enjoyable for the majority of the members. I have talked to moderators from other Treasure sites who told me they were glad to see politics were banned from TN, and they also did not allow politics on their boards either.......

Spelling?
I wasn't saying you were involved with the politics board. But you were an outspoken critic of the new Treasurenet. Now you're not.
Personally, I wouldn't let other sites determine how I ran mine. Maybe that's just me.

That makes sense, Mods on other sites hated to see all of the detectorists that wanted to discuss other topics winding up on Tnet. It did help level the field for them. And we always knew your twisted thinking that it was an embarrassment to you.
In the old days political speech was acceptable in this country, and about the time Pres W. Wilson started throwing political prisoners in jail it was deemed unacceptable. And every since Americans have been afraid of free speech.
