ORPD allows low impact beach mining for recreational purposes without a permit Low impact is non-mechanized equipment such as panning, sluice boxes (filled by manual means) and other hand or manual mining equipment that reduces the impact to other recreational beach pursuits and natural resources. We do not issue permits for commercial mining operations on the beach or commercial/recreational mining using mechanized equipment. There are no in water restrictions for mining thru the OPRD ocean shores regulations. If you are mining arounds mouths of rivers flowing into ocean or estuarine systems than there maybe restrictions due to fish and wildlife concerns. Creeks generally have an instream period of work from July 1 to Sept 15. To check on other time for in stream work or around estuaries contact Dept of Environmental Quality at 541-269-2721 ext. 27 and talk with Pam Blake.
