Re: My trommel build

Made a couple of modifications today. I had two caster wheels to keep the drum centered but they were junk so I made a nylon bushing instead. Also made an adjustable third leg to control the outlet end of the trommel, and can also use it to pull the trommel around by hand.

Re: My trommel build

Very nice adjustment to the capability of maneuvering the angle of said mechanism.
No one builds machinery like that without knowing where to move some dirt to produce results.
Just stating the obvious. Which could be noticable or not, depending on the deductive reasoning involved.

Re: My trommel build

Regarding the UHMW bushings you made. When you start running the trommel, you will notice a black substance where the UHMW, metal and water interact. It is a natural chemical occurrence, so don't think something is wrong. It is not excessive wear.

Re: My trommel build

I've got a little further but I am waiting for a piece of metal to be bent and a sluice.

I want that guy^ on my team!
No seriously jog, that's a great time saver and awesome craftmanship. Not big enough to be commercial, and small enough to be portable. Totally awesome!

When I'm all done I will show a pic of the tools I used. In case anyone decides to make one.

I am very impressed with your handiwork. You do quite professional work and should be very proud of your creation.
I have a question, regarding trommels. I have never owned one but I have noticed that the openings on the drum always seem to be 1/2" + in size.
Have you (or anyone else reading this) ever seen a trommel with 8 mesh screen on its drum? Would this work or would it be too restrictive? I am developing a concentrator based on sand liquefaction from vibration and it is necessary to classify everything to -8 mesh.
I understand, of course, that it would likely be necessary to classify to 1/4"-1/2" before attempting to classify to 8 mesh in a trommel.
Regards
Bob
PS I couldn't help but notice, in your first batch of pics, what appear to be worn horseshoes hanging on your sawhorse. Do you shoe horses?

Re: My trommel build ( A little closer to the end )

Travellar..
Personally this is my first attempt at a trommel and I have never used one either. I would think that a person could build something that could classify to 8 mesh. It might have to be done in stages but I think it's possible.
I have several hundred horse shoes because I build all kinds of things out of them. Just trying to make some extra money. I get them from a farrier.
Thanks for the nice comments.
