Planning Trip

I live in Illinois(Chicago Area) and was going to plan a 1 week trip to gold panning and sluicing. Was looking to drive between 10-12 hours at most one way. Is there any good spots that you recommend for a newb. Thanks.

id definatly look at www.midwestprospector.com Chuck Lassiter has a GPAA group in northern Indiana and does very well dredgeing in the streams in northern Indiana.infact he has a outting comeing up soon. the rain/flooding has canceled the outting for this weekend.
