Likelihood of gold in CO River

All the gold I have found has been in the mountain washes, a handfull of miles up from the CO River, here in my town in AZ. I hear dredging is not permitted in the river, but it seems logical that since all the washes end up in the river, there should be gold that has made it's way into it. I am planning to bring goggles, a garden shovel, two buckets, a classifier and my pan, on my next boating outing to see what might turn up near where these washes terminate. Anyone have an opinion about this concept?

In my opinion, you have a good shot at having a great time and maybe even putting a little color in your poke! Overburden (silting) is going to be a consideration, but you never know till you prospect it out. Good Luck!
