Gold in Sacramento?

Is there any gold in the creeks in and around Sacramento? Such as Dry Creek by Elverta/Rio Linda area? Or even Miners Ravine Roseville area? Is this to far for the gold to travel?

I hauled a bucket a rock hammer and a small hand shovel down the hill to the creek, I went kinda minimalist because the creeks not currently running and the terrain headed down is pretty steep and crubly material. Upon arrival I discovered an iron digging bar in an obviosly already dug location. So I availed myself of the bar and collected some material off of what apperead to be a large shelf like structure in the sandstone in the side wall of he creek. Really nice looking material a deep red clay filled with all sizes of smooth cobble.

I have worked it a few times when the water was in different stages. You get plenty of broken glass, old porcelain,rusty metal and human waste of all types per pan. Also every kind of debris and chemical liquid runoff that made my hands cruddy for days. On the other hand pulled 25 colors in one pan from the downside of the tree below the cobble bar where the two creeks meet. It was a good learning area for me as a nooby but I won't be heading back. There is some good color in the part that parallels the ave just below where they put in the raised pipeline. There is a shelf down there too that had some color. Good luck and welcome to the forum. If you find my pan that floated away towards Madison keep it.

Rancho Murieta, the main stem of the Cosumnes river was the site of a big gold strike during the time of Juaquin Murieta, where some were shot. There is a monument at the site. My brother is a member of the country club there. Have seen some in the past with backpack dredges walking along the river. Problem is you can't park at the bridge unless an emergency. Park your car at the store then drive another up to Michigan bar road, turn left until you get to the river. Walk down and prospect as necessary. Say 2 to 3 miles??

If I still lived in the Sacramento area I know where I would be searching for gold....this place is good for panning and sniping....On Salmon Falls Rd. you park at the Rattlesnake bridge and go in stream ..Low water flow changes the whole game...........Art

You guys are talking about two of my old hang out when I was young. Orangevale ave. the hill just before the bridge is were we would go when we cut class in High School (Casa) to smoke stuff. Rancho Murieta I lived on the orig ranch there just up from the bridge. for 3 years there are some big cat fish in that part of the river and the Salmon run there also good fishing.

I hit Dillard Road bridge out by Murietta whenever I need a gold fix. Always get good color. Very small and fine - only in top layers - but guaranteed to make you feel good. Haven't been up to Salmon Falls bridge though. So it's worth a trip?

I had good gold just east of sunrise bridge in rancho cordova. I dig right on on top of clay layers. But downside there always a lot of people on the river rafting, swiming, bicycling.

That IS really nice gold for how far away you are from the quartz canyons weeping Voltzwagon size chunks in the Middle and North Fork.
-right in my neighborhood too nonetheless- Maybe something to look into on my lunch breaks at work!-

That was about a bucket and a half of classified to 1/4".
I have too stopped by there couple of times on my lunch breaks for quick pan lol.

Love this, quite impressed with your effort, nice clean hole (used to dig ditches for a plumber when I was young so a pro hole is appreciated!) AND THE GOLD!
