I've noticed that most folks use grams in their weight measurements instead of the traditional Troy Weight. It is easier to use things that you are use to but nice to learn the old and still normal method.

12 troy oz = 1 pound
20 pennyweight = 1 troy oz

1.55 grams = 1 pennyweight

Seeds from the Carob tree was the original carat weight for gold and precious stones. the carob tree is native to eastern Mediterranean region of Asia Minor and Syria, now growing in Florida, Arizona and S, Cal.

Either way it's still gold!

Well as far as I know, when you refer to "An Ounce" of gold you're automatically speaking of a Troy Ounce which is equal to 31.1034768 grams.

When it comes to metal gauges most people don't know that there are different gauges for the different types of metal. 16Ga steel wire is not the same thickness as 16Ga Gold and 16 Ga Aluminum is different than either!!! It can get rather confusing at times when you're trying to mix different metals in a project.

Personally I think it's more than time for all these different gauges and weights to be made the same for all things. Why keeps things so confusing when we really don't have to? The days of "guild secrets" are long past.

Just listened to it on the drive back from Calif. a
couple weeks back. I've got it loaded on a CD along
with some great classic rock bands. Heard it first when
I was just a kid, and it's still funny today.
