Here's a little story.. Last year my dad and I went prospecting together at our favorite spot. He picked an area that neither of us had worked and planned on working a 5 yard stretch up from that point. I carried on and went upstream to a spot I was working the day before. I walked back down to visit him every hour or so to see how he was doing. Every time I checked on him he had a nice picker in his pan. The next time we went back to the creek for a day of prospecting he continued at his spot and I continued at mine. This time every time I came to visit him he only had specks and I was showing him big pickers I was finding upstream. He abandoned the spot thinking it wasn't worth the time. He had only worked one yard into his 5 yard stretch when he gave up so today I went back and almost finished the stretch sluicing/sniping. I posted this story for any beginners on here who may learn from it. If you go with a partner and they're doing better don't let it discourage you. Occasional bad days are just a part of prospecting. Can't do good every day. Now here's what I got today. Got a pretty late start and didn't finish the stretch.. I'll finish it some time this week and post the results. 3.2 grams.

Last time I checked Hangtown ace hardware sells and displays these 2 cycle jobe super vacs in the front window. I know ill be using one, everyone knows what some "rules" are made for lol... Out of sight, out of mind and will see what happens. As for the "suction guns", they are hand powered.. If anyone gives me a hard time while out with mine ill tell em to take a hike in the kindest way possible lol. Awesome looking gold by the way N8 great take for a late start and cool story! Do you know how much those super vacs cost? The only place I've seen some kind of gas powered bucket vac like that was at the mining store in auburn and I think it was over $400 or something. I don't want to spend that much on one.

Yea, 399$ sticker price at ace, not cheap but is equipped with a 25cc echo engine, and "extremely quiet with catalytic converter" I guess it's 15lbs dry. I believe tnet member Azviper has a good write up on how to build em, but I may be wrong

"399 sticker price" lol, that reminds me of first gold show I attended. The Keene dredges were pricey, but the salesman said, "you can pay for this in one weekend, if you find a good spot"

I think I'll stick to dumping water in the cracks and sucking it out with a suction gun for that price.

For sure, I too use the same recovery method with the sucker gun. But bad feeling seasonal streams will be running dry early this year... Could probably build two just as good for that 400$ price

Well today I went back to the spot and tried finishing it off but I dropped my suction gun and the end broke so one of my more important tools was partly broken. It still worked it just couldn't get down into deep cracks. Luckily I had other sniping tools with me so I finished the spot off that way. I had a really late start to the day and just left when the spot was finished. About 2.5-3hrs. I got 1 gram, 3 0.2 gram nuggets and some other little pickers. Here's a pic.
