Ok here is what I hope someone can answer. The water pump below is designed to have a gear or pulley attached to the shaft and driven by an engine or motor. My question can I reverse how this pump can be driven. I would like to turn this pump into a water hydraulic driven motor. I would like to use my 9000 GPH pump to feed the pump and to rotate the shaft on my trommel and do away with the gas motor. The discharge end of the pump would return to the resiviour.

Question: Is this possible? I have seen Hydraulic Water Driven Motors but they are expensive.

I don't think it would have enough pressure but the best way is to try most rubber impeller style pumps can be used if there's enough pressure from your driving pump.. But they do require quite a bit of pressure because the impeller it tight in the housing !,,
You could trim the impeller to allow it to spin easer ..... But that may rob some of its ability to turn something ....

Also that's a sump pump and no where near 9000 gph .. I think they fudged the numbers to sell it to ya ..
Any how most sump pumps are not high pressure ...

I tested it. The pump can deliver the water. 15 gallons of water in 6 seconds.

The second video is my spray bar with 101 holes and the water spraying about 8ft. into the air from all 101 holes.

The idea came from this video. This looks like a hydraulic motor that he is feeding with a garden hose.

sorry it look a lot smaller in the picture.. All the pumps we put in are measured at 10' of head
.you might check the pressure .. I'm not certain of the other pump your trying to use as a water motor but if it has a rubber impeller than you may be able to trim it so it turns much easer .. Also I'm not a pump expert my company just deals with tons of sump pumps
About 4500 a year....from monsters to little ones ...

Thinking of replacing the gas engine in my trommel I am building. The trommel only needs to rotate at 20 RPM and with the gear reduction already in place the water motor does not need a lot of torque.

I know it can be done as iv seen them but I'm not sure what there using as a water motor.. Iv seen some cheap water pumps that are made to be driven with a drill motor used as water motors but iv never messed with it and not sure how strong they are...

try a pelton style water motor with a gear reduction thats what i am playing with on my trommel now. or you can try the motors off of the hydro powered hose reel's. they have a lot of pull with little pressure. reels my 150' hhose in with a good amount of force and i have little water pressure.

You have any links to these pumps?

you would be suprised how powerful the little water driven motors in those wig wag water sprinklers are

In the early 1900's many items were powered by water to make things rotate. So what you and I are wanting to do with our trommels is not a mystery its just finding the correct hydraulic water motor.

if you are going to make a water motor, the bigger the impeller(not a rubber impeller) the more power you will have, along with water volume and pressure. In my opinion the pump pictured will be to small for what you want to do with it. to turn the tromel pictured, will probably take 3-4hp to run it efficently .
try googling( water motors )
