You have rocks in your creek.
See a doctor if this condition persists longer than 4 hours.

:)

Sorry.. couldn't resist.

Grab a few that look rusted or have minerals in them.
Crush them down and pan them.
Look for tiny gold.
WEAR SAFETY GLASSES....

I'm finding large chunks of quartz just lying in the creek bed can anyone tell me what this might mean?

if they are soccer to basket-ball size rounded quartz start digging around! Some good pickers should be mixed in. If it's shattered quartz idk...

Do a google search on mining in your area. Unless you already know gold was mined in your area:dontknow: The presence of quartz doesn't mean there will be gold, yet the gold in your area could be found in the quartz. Instead find out if there is gold in that gravel....then try to find out where it came from.

well quartz rock in your creek could just bebecause quartz is the second most common mineral on earth

but based on the size, texture, and surface of the rocks many things can happen

some quartz bears gold because gold will solidify inside it deep underground

if the rocks are large and smooth it means you may be on a good placer deposit, all you can do is research your area and find out what kind of placer
or hard rock mining happened there
