Today I went out for some bank blasting/power sluicing. I have quite a few pics to show plus a video from my trail cam.

Came up with 3 grams including that nice little Speci. Anyone know what that black thing is that I have in my hand? I was guessing some kind of Indian thing?

wow - you come up with the stuff that makes this forum always interesting - That's a really nice spearpoint or knife (have the guys check it out over on "north American artifacts forum, they'll know.) And beautiful quartz/gold specimens, my favorite thing !! And trail cam - nothing better, for me. Thanks for posting :notworthy:

after reading the antiques act, I would say that "black rock" is just a rock! if it were a Indian artifact your not supposed to keep them or they can be taken from you legally (right or wrong) that's the law. BUT its a interesting "rock" in any event! and posting it on a forum would only bring the authoritys down upon you!

I think it might actually just be a sliver of bedrock from the creek that just happened to look like one. I think those are usually made out of a certain type of rock but it's just bedrock. Maybe just a sliver that chipped off somewhere.

Thanks! Comments like this are what keep me posting! I like to share my finds to inspire others to get out there. I know most people who do decent don't like to post.

Obsidian and Flint, were some of the most used by the natives. Knapping is a lost art for sure. if it were human made you would see evidence of flaking. small half circles around the side edges of the artifact. Here is an example. http://www.rootsvt.com/sites/www.rootsvt.com/files/styles/large/public/rainbow_HDR2.jpg?itok=BIpExdV-
Yeah I don't think what I found is one of those. That one looks way different! Not sure where they'd get obsidian or flint in my area though.. Thanks for the info!

On second thought actually I am mining on private property today. Doing some processing in the backyard.

..on a brighter note. :)

May the gold come to you.
