I would say if your finding fist sized balls of Quartz Definately.
Otherwise know what rocks gold would be associated with.
For you your gold is glacial so do some research as to where it's supposed to have come from and what the geology is of THAT area.
Crushing regular rocks won't give you much except a way to relieve stress :)

Are there any known examples of quartz gold being found in Ohio..specifically in your area?You might find info at the state Bureau of mines or whatever it's called in Ohio.Have you ever checked the fine gold with a loupe and looked for minute particles of quartz attached?likely your wasting your time by crushing up quartz float(not in situ..in place..as in a vein or stringer.
