I have owned an operated a number of websites. Getting everything to open and run correctly is the key. As Jeff has said it's going to take time to input, position, spell check, etc.

    You are welcome TheGoldProspector!

We were of course worried about the load. The response has been huge and the server has been pounded almost continuously since we went public. So far the server hasn't broken a sweat. We tried to design the whole system to be very robust. Premium server with premium connection and a lot of very lean, fast custom code.

It all seems to be working as planned. Let me know if anyone experiences a slowdown or bad page loads.

You are welcome goldenmojo. I'll pass on your thanks to our little crew!

If you type "american river" into any Land Matters Library search box you will get two very important results for the Middle and North Forks.

Geology and Mineral Deposits of the Colfax and Foresthill Quadrangles, California by Deb Chandra 1961
    and
The Auriferous Gravels of California, Geology of their occurrence and methods of their exploitation by John Hammond Hays 1890

Those are about 5 Mb each to download.

The Chandra geology was so important we made a database of it and included the whole book in our North and Middle Fork FootPrints maps. The geology information we made into one of the eight geology layers on those maps. Good Stuff!

The Hays Auriferous Gravels of California is part of the California Geologists report for 1890. There are quite a few of these annual reports in the Library. We've got more of those as well as several important books about the American rivers scheduled for inclusion in the Library soon. Check back often for updates.

Very nice!!! I am a map freak and love looking for strange and cool maps. One I found that I always go to that is loaded with layers of info that can be added on top of each other and viewed simultaneously is Caltopo.com. I commonly layer a current satellite view on top of a map from the late 1800's or early 1900's to see where the river used to run years ago.
Not sure if some of the historical overlays can be used in the "Historical Maps" section?
    Love this site great work!

    Check Updates and Alabama Geology

As promised the County Recorder links on the Oregon Claims map are now up and working, links from the map let you click through to either the current BLM LR2000 report on the claim or to the County Recorder's website.

I just finished up the Alabama geology. It's a doozy! The folks in Alabama have some real interesting geology. Check it out!

    More new stuff tomorrow.

    Check More Alabama Gold

Land Matters has some new resources in the Library to go along with that great Alabama Geology map!

Just go to any search box in the Library and type in Alabama and you will see four new results:

Gold Deposits of Alabama 1930 George Adams

Mineral Resources of the Upper Gold Belt 1896 William Brewer

The Lower Gold Belt of Alabama 1892 William B. Phillips

Sketch of the Geology of Alabama 1892 Eugene Allan Smith

That should keep you busy for awhile!

    Lot's more to come

Check Washing State Mining Claims map is now up!

The Washington mining claims map is current as of today October 12th.
County Recorder links are going up as I type this.

There are 3,597 mining claims in Washington. You can access the current LR2000 report on all of them by clicking on the map.

Next up for claims is Colorado!

    Check Nevada Geology Map

I hope everyone had a gold filled weekend?

With the desert season started here we are involved in a new deposit, updating claims maps and software for FootPrints and preparing more books and maps for Land Matters. Busier than a cat on a hot tin roof.

The Nevada State Geology map is up and working. More state's geology coming later this week!

Colorado folks are going to be happy soon - Colorado active claims and much more are coming very soon. Keep a watch here.

Have you considered mailing letters explaining the website and its historic, geologic and practical uses to High Schools, Community Colleges and Universities? Also directly to the History and Geology / Earth Science teachers and Professors. Its going to be a lot of work but thousands of letters can potentially increase to millions of hits over time.

I don't know how keen you are on ad revenue but with a steady flow of academic visitors, its pretty easy to figure out your ad base, the rest of us would be miners of course.

There are also awesome ad generators that read your history quickly as a page loads and pops up an ad based on those searches.

    Just an idea.
