Possibly, but likely not where you're thinking. Big issue with dams is sediment build up up steam. As the river encounters the dam lake, it slows down. What happens when it slows down.....?

so, above the roller dam. The only problem is that stuff is real nasty muddy all the time

Good luck with that....Dam's have exclusion zones that vary from 500' to 2500' or more depending on the dam (upstream and downstream). Check with the local dam authority before you show anywhere near a dam with a shovel or dredge. Especially if it's an Army Corp of Engineers project, they get really excited and bent out of shape !
