Figured I'd share my recent find as everyone here has been more than generous with advice and pointers. Been running a homemade 7ft highbanker with a combo of Doc's Gold Hog mats (thanks Doc, gonna order some of them of them new mats soon), and a Gold cube to con it down, in the Amazon, mainly working tailings dumps from some of the medium size operations. We (I, my buddies were beat just setting everything up)moved 2 cubic meters (400 shovel fulls not all heaping) of tailings in one after another by shovel, and Im pretty happy with the results, not so much with my tan. .50 grams from cons screened to 1/8th, and I havent even tried to separate the flour gold, theres too much and Im not that good of a panner, plus I want to keep my eyesight. Maybe a recommendation? Thanks all for the advice...

Next trip Im gonna look at getting a monitor or some type of feed system set up to eliminate the shoveling and keep a constant flow into the header box...

Gold is still gold no matter what the size, although we all prefer larger chunks

Well that's really not saying much when ya think of it Jeff! The munchkin with a pan could find more than Mr. Hoffman did on his little jungle trip.

Glad to hear that someone is finding something down there! A little background would be nice as well as how hard was it to get to go through the tailings. Was it a "have at it" or "sure... Just don't forget our percentage" deal?

Little Background:

Went back to South America to take care of my ailing father, pretty much left my entire life behind. Didnt want to work a normal 9 to 5, and my dads mechanic offered to take me into the sticks to visit a gold mine where he was working on an excavator. 22 hr trip later, see all types of equip just rusting around bc of lack of parts. Offer to bring said parts back on my next trip stateside = business formed. Got a good thing going with the local artesianal and medium sized miners, I visit them and they let me play around (kinda helps I only charge them a 10% premium on parts). Needless to say the washplants they have set up are basic at least, they blow out most of their flour gold and alot of pickers. . Considering they are running about 150 dump trucks of dirt daily, and only recovering about 900grams weekly, I think I did pretty good. Trying to come up with way to incorporate Gold Hog mats at the end run of their system, classified down way smaller. Part of the problem is that its common practice to use rebar as a grizzly, spaced 2 inches apart. That lets in huge pancake rocks and slate, and clogs their system, blowing out everything behind those riffles. Add to that that they only clean out once a week, dirty water, etc, and I, in my uniformed opinion, believe they are losing more than 60% of their gold. My best customer has offered me a 500mtr x 500mtr claim (250000 meters or about 60 acres) to work, but I honestly prefer just to dig thru the tailings. Plus I dont have an excavator, dump truck, wheel loader, and dozer. Heres some more pics, Ill try to get a vid of their clean out up.

Hardrock mine right next to a major town, you can see the cell tower in the back, Trucks load ore and run them into the wash plant, everynow and then the excavator cleans out the channel where the tailings accumulate. Those are all tailings in the front. About 50ft from where we had our pump running, several people were diving down into river with shovels, coming back up with shovel fulls of dirt and panning them out...


After clean out at another site, thats in grams, and its mostly pickers. The papers to the right of the scale are used to sort the fines, they kinda just shake the paper and them gently blow the non gold out.

It sounds to my like you could do well with the right system just going through the tailings. Especially if they're blowing out 60% of their gold! If you could point out how they could improve their operation to get even more gold and for very little cost I'm sure they'd be very grateful.

No gov, epa, blm, forest circus, center for biological diversity, Karooks (spellimg intentional) sierra fund, no conservancy this or that. simple diggin dirt and findin gold. Heres an idea for a real goldmine for you and family. Start up a gold camp retirement home for U.S. miners that want to be leff alone to mine their golden years in peace, quiet, and gold filled pans.
