Hi, I hardly post in the prospecting section of TNET, but I just got an email from PLP asking for assistance. So I'm pasting the email here to help get the word out.

Dear loyal Public Lands for the People Members,

PLP would like to thank all of you who came out and supported PLP at the Stockton GPAA Gold Show last weekend. It was a great show and couldn’t have been so successful without the many volunteers from the 3 clubs that worked tirelessly for three days! Central Valley Gold Prospectors, Delta Diggers, Sacramento GPAA Chapter and the East Bay Prospectors are AWESOME! Not only did they work tirelessly to make the GPAA Gold Show a success (of which they did a fantastic job!), they voted unanimously to donate the major prize raffle proceeds to Public Lands for the People to continue in the legal fight to bring back dredging to California! Are they just the best folks or what? PLP Board Member Jerry Shodall, myself and our lovely wives worked the PLP booth and had a terrific time meeting so many friendly, highly supportive folks that thanked us for being at the shows. We saw many old friends and made a bunch of new ones and are thankful for you all. We can’t fight these things without all of us pitching in and doing our part.

Another hardworking club, The Route 66 Club voted to donate their entire portion of the Pomona GPAA Gold Show major raffle to PLP. What a great bunch of folks, who understand the stakes are high in the legal cases and are willing to put their money where their mouth is! THANK YOU!

PLP along with American Mining Rights Association (AMRA), hosted a roundtable discussion on all types of legal land issues and updates at the Stockton show which was very well received. The GPAA is happy to see this cooperation amongst the mining community and more of these gold show talks to inform miners are planned.

Just as we were unpacking from the show, another road closure issue has raised it’s ugly head...so here is theACTION ALERT:

The Cleveland National Forest has decided to close more roads and it’s up to us to let them know they need to allow miners access to their claims! They need to hear from a bunch of us, and FAST!

The public comment period ends on MARCH 19th!

Attached is the letter from the Forest Service Supervisor William Metz announcing the closure of “unauthorized routes”, which in this writers opinion is political correct speak for old roads that have been historically used by miners and other outdoor user groups for many years.

Please take 10 minutes and write a letter ASAP reminding them that they need to allow miners access to their Federal Mining Claims under the 1872 Mining Law. You can email your comments to: [email protected] Please be polite and remember, they count the number of responses FOR and AGAINST. We need to be in the majority to make a difference in the outcome.

Remember, if we all do something, even a little, we will accomplish a whole lot!

Let’s take it back and KEEP IT!

Thanks to you all,

Ron Kliewer, PLP VP

PLP is auctioning vintage items, books, gold nuggets, T-shirts, POLO shirts etc. etc. which may pique your interest. When you purchase one of our gold bearing dirtbags (not a reclusive gold miner with dust in his pockets) you get a bag of gold bearing dirt that you can pan out on your own or better yet with the kids. Wouldn't they love to pan out their very own gold. Here is a link to our Auction site on eBay.

I donate many auction proceeds from my eBay auctions to PLP. Even though I currently live in socialist Maine I am very concerned with what is happening in the west.

Did anybody actually look at the road closure maps?

I don't see any through routes or public ways being considered for closure. If mining access is being affected miners already have a superior right to access on closed routes. This plan shouldn't affect their access rights even if the route is closed to recreational traffic.

I'm not familiar with that area so it would be nice to have feedback from someone who is actually being affected by these closures.

Right now it looks more like a knee jerk reaction, look over the maps and if you disagree with any particular closure let's discuss it here.

Wonder how Mr. Metz would like it to find the road to his home "Closed".
Time to put the shoe on the other foot.

People with property (including claim owners) are exempt from the travel restrictions Underburden. This closure order won't affect their right to access. Did you see an area on the maps that you would want kept open to the public?

Nothing new here, whenever a new district ranger comes into a national forest or BLM region its not unusual for their heavy handed crap to follow, especially if they were successful "changing the world" at their previous assignment. History has shown the best way to deal with these knucklheads is to stomp on em hard right from the start and they usually back off when the heat becomes to much. Over 100 years of mining law backed by relevant "case law" just shuts these fools right down. Fighting the good fight cost money so every miner's support is key.

Clay, I'm just saying...
Seems they just keep coming up with 'make work projects' to justify their existence.
What has changed in the forest in the last 50-60 years?
USFS / BLM staff keeps growing but what has changed in the forest to justify the heavy staff numbers.
Sorry, getting too old for this stuff...my tolerance level is zero. Don't get me going on politics :BangHead:
How I miss the 50's !!!

No politics needed.

The "roads" I see slated for closure are little pull outs on the sides of existing roads. I don't live there or use that forest so maybe one of those pullouts has enough trees to make it a good camping spot? Unless there is a specific reason to keep one of these pullouts open I don't see any reason to draw a line in the sand over this. I don't see any road closures that would limit access to any part of the forest.

Miners already have a right to access despite any travel restrictions. This isn't a miner's fight. It might be a worthwhile fight for someone's favorite pullout - that's why I hoped we could discuss specifics about the closures. The Cleveland is a huge Forest stretching from LA nearly to the Mexican border. Maybe somewhere in there they are closing something they shouldn't be seems to be the theory. So far that's just a theory.

I'm not seeing anything on the maps but maybe some folks familiar with the area can tell us why we should care? If you are going to fight every square foot on principle you will lose. Comments have to point out facts that need to be considered or procedure or laws that need to be followed. It's entirely possible to either change these plans or shut them down as we have in the past. That takes specific objections. Throwing money or filling out comment forms won't work. There's got to be something beside just objecting to the Forest not maintaining these pullouts.

I see greenie groups oppose anything that might allow the public to use their lands. They often do that as an automatic (knee jerk) reaction to any use. I hate to see miners or land users stoop to being non thinking reactionary groups too. There should be a real reason behind expending our limited time and funds on any project. Maybe there is a real reason here but from my study this looks like a knee jerk reaction to ordinary management actions. I think we are better than that, I'd hoped someone could come up with a concrete reason we should divert funds or time from the very important Rhinehart mining rights case. Maybe someone will?

PLP? Not likely to get a reply. Is there anybody out there that knows why this would be on their action list?

YES... PLP , Western Mining Alliance and Modern Fourty-Niners have been very active in Ca (so have others) and their showing has been "exceptional and impressive" to say the least. GPAA has come through with solid financial backing for PLP. Remember, Ca has become the trend setting state for the rest of the nation especially for politics as of late so battles won or lost here will "ripple" especially through the western states facing similar issues. BTW, I hate politics and all I want to do is dig but diggin and freedom feel one and the same so I help when I can....Rob

Like the GPAA, they have stopped nothing!
None of these groups stepped in when SC, VT, and TN lost dredging.
Oh... it's a west-kind-of-thing?

Trout Unlimited is attacking Maine AGAIN. Help is non-existent.

I'm broke, I'm going dredging...

Some people just want everything to be negative:BangHead:.....Running around waiting for the sky to hit the ground takes energy and focus off of the real issues.

other people pay little attention...and unfortunately can't pay a compliment when due and thank those that have stuck their necks out. And have no real idea of work or progress. Its sad that those who could contribute so much in effort and example...choose to bash and ride their high horse. Sometimes the best thing for the unaffected miner is for him to keep quiet and just stay down in the canyon. What does it matter what a person of no real action says.....makes their points...POINTLESS!

Compound that with sects of people who get all their info from attitude and hearsay.....people who refuse to read and understand management plans and research relevant effects.....and realize what they actually say. Well, I guess we will still just have to sit back and watch them run in circles waiting on that falling sky.....While some of us we educate ourselves, can still go out heads high and just do what we want to do legally and unfettered by propaganda and misinformation.
I sure am glad I have my witts about me, a good attitude and desire to know the truth. Must be one of the key reasons I have such an awesome life.

Glad theres guys like Barry who help me keep that big ol' smile I got!!! Thanks Barry!!!!

But the truth is you don't give the ACTUAL miner enough credit! For the last 4 years over half of my income came from gold. I don't save it to see how pretty it is.. To show my friends... Its how I make my living. I am settled on this life.. For better for worse... Anyway all I want is to be represented by people who actually prospect for gold! This stuff effects my LIFE.. GOLDWASHER IT JUST SCREWS UP YOUR WEEKEND ... NO doubt you will just go fishing instead... Me I just want to be represented!!! Not by clubs that make their living of the miner!! Small scale mining rights should be represented by MINERS. And when these clubs starting donating their way to influence my rights ya I get frustrated!!! It is actually pretty simple!!!!! DONATIONS MONEY ECT ECT should not dictate Justice nor Law... EVEN IF IT WORKS IN MY FAVOR... But that's good old Capitalism.. Anyway TOO EACH THERE OWN ..

The unaffected miners are the freaking clubs!

I'm a member of no club....I happen to depend on gold mining quite a bit. I haven't had weekends for several decades actually. I do not collect gold and I am lucky to be a man who has multiple avenues of income. I guess I should be ashamed of my self for only being in the several pound range when it comes to gold dug and sold though. Do I get to include agate, obsidian, petrified wood.. opal, opalized palm wood, petrified wood ...arrowheads, bottles, pounds and pounds of quality specimins. I plan on digging more. and selling more why wouldn't I I have made a lot of money doing so. I have been making money out of the earth for a very very long time Victor. Your the one who gets hung up on a calendar and a clock and don't know the whole story. I guess my positive happy go lucky disposition is just a bonus:hello:. I'm glad I don't have so many things holding me back and bugging me. Things just don't seem so oppressive to me.

BTW if it wasn't for capitalism you would have no legit market....to make you a Legit Miner!!!

Well it is easy for one to assume... So let me back peddle a bit. it was not my intention to single you out, even though that's what I did.
Anyway politics seem to bring out some of my worst qualities...

always fun.. always learnin new stuff...

I sincerely doubt I have any "say whatsoever" in what rights I have or any of these issues period!!! So with that being said I suspect I can keep my opinions to myself..

Anyway seems like life is treating you good. I hope it continues..
