every run into problems with weed growers, CA gold country?

i'm on another forum, cheaprvliving.com since i'm planning to spend a few months living in my van in gold country, van camping on national forest land. a couple of members on there have pointed out that local weed growers often shoot first, ask questions later when defending their stash (by defending, i mean going anywhere near it). any one have problems in CA gold country like that?

I believe you misunderstood my comments; either that or you're just being a smart ass.

I'm not the least bit fearful of a pot grow in the woods, but I
would move away from it just to avoid any potential confrontation.

My entire point was that American's should be doing their
growing as legal as possible, and not be out clearing new
timber growth and leaving their trash behind.

Dut, I literally live in the Pac. NW rainforest country
just south of Canada. I'm also a primitive bowhunter, and
have hunted these hills/mtns for many years. Seen dozens
of grows on State and Federal land, and never once had an issue
with a grower.

Most of those grows were under 50 plants, and generally
belonged to locals. They'd go in the Spring and plant seeds
along the edge of a 2-3 year old clearcut, but they don't
run water lines or damage the forest at all.

In Calif., the medical laws allow for quite a few plants, and most
anyone can get a medical card. I don't care if they grow their
hearts out, just so long as they grow on their property, as
the law allows.

Got nothing to do with a fear of anything.

One good reason to do your panning a ways from a grow is
that cats, especially bobcat, love the smell of pot. It's as bad,
or worse, than catnip, and they'll roll all over it given a chance.
This means the odds are greater that there would be cougar
or bobcat close by.

Bending over with a pan in my hand makes me look like prey,
but if I gotta look like prey I'm going to at least apply the knowledge
I've gained through a lifetime spent trapping, fishing and hunting
in the woods and deserts from Ariz. to Canada.

FWIW, I've trapped many, many Bobcat using a skunky MJ
bud inside of a 35mm film canister with holes in the lid as a lure.

Never run into one of those huge grows done by the Mexicans,
but were they to plant one in this area, and the local people
found 'em...well, it would be...bad. If the Darrington boys
caught 'em, they'd likely be found with their plants trashed (or
swiped), and the Mexican illegals stripped to their drawers,
chained to a tree with honey all over 'em; a most uncomfortable
way to spend time in Black Bear country!

Got no issue with pot; just with the huge grows done in State
and Federal forest lands by illegal aliens.

Not trying to be a smart ass ...not only have u not run
into the huge cartel grows with your vast experience in the woods but neither have
the Feds just more bs.

Disagree that LEO has not removed any Mexican national grows
from N. Calif. There is a hellofa lot of proof that they do grow
there. Also, it's my understanding that the Cartel's threaten
the growers families if they don't go up to Cal. and grow for
them.

Seriously though, I don't care if they're Mexican Nationals,
Mexicans run by the Cartels, or even local folks...none of 'em
have any business tearing up the forests and leaving piles
of garbage behind in the deep woods.

As for my area, the growing season is shorter than the Mexicans
like, and the summer humidity brings in all sorts of issues, like
bud rot (aka: Botrytis) and powdery mildew. With those huge
grows, once an issue like bud rot and mildew hits the crop, they've
pretty lost it all.

Enough of this..

To get back to the OP's question, no, I don't fear walking
into a grow. You should always be aware of your surroundings
when out in the wilds, and if you do walk into a grow, just back
out of there and go a different route. If ya wanna walk on through
it, then use common sense and a reasonable amount of caution.

im not going to stay out of the woods or limit trips . when i find black pipe that is being used, i sure dont follow it. i think what the origonal poster was suggesting is if anyone has ran into people in the act ( and be seen) and had to get out of a potentially very dangerous situation. that has not happend to me. hope it never does. by the way millions of plants are taken out of the nf in ca or, and wa alone. some years ca removes 2 million+, but thats when they get lots of funding.

Most certainly out of control.They grade the hillsides with impunity, draws the criminal and undesirable element by the hundreds, etc. etc. It's a modern day gold rush. My only beef is that while this goes on, I can't even put a little 4inch gold dredge in the creek.

Are you sure it's not private property, I doubt that they would build structures in national forest for a grow op. Would be an easy way to get caught.
