can you pan on lode claims?

like the title says, is it ok to pan and metal detect on land with a lode claim but no placer claim?

Not unless it's your lode claim or you have permission from the person, group, or company that owns the mineral rights. Another thing to note: just because there is a known lode of ore in an area doesn't mean there will be any placer gold there. I have worked areas where lode claims have previously been registered and I have found placer gold, but this isn't always the case.
