Noticed this was your very first posting - so, Welcome Aboard! Until someone pipes in - you might take a look at Sub-Forums: Illinois for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.

Placer gold has been reported from several localities in Illinois including:
1. The Sangamon River Valley in Macon County,
2. The Mississippi River Valley and a small tributary in Henderson County,
3. The Illinois River Valley in Fulton County,
4. The Spoon River Valley in Fulton County,
5. An outwash plain in McHenry County.

From here. Gold, Mining and Prospecting: Gold Occurrences in Illinois

Someplace for you to start....

Remember, gold is where you find it... However... research research research can help you find it. Start digging into the geology of your area, and researching
the type of geology that would produce gold... I really wish I was a geologist, because its kind of fascinating...

Just because nobody has found it yet doesn't mean its not there... Or somebody has found it, and is keeping their big mouth shut...

All of the study's that Il has done is from 1968 or older. they have done some in south Il and did not fined any gold you may have to go to mid Il and look in creek's, stream's. look at glazier maps for Il there is gold in glazier till and out flows look for sand and coble on bed rock. I will be small gold.
