Canada's quiet mining giants...

While studying, I've run across some big mining operations going on in quiet Canada. The first company I ran across was True North Gems and while their primary mining operations seem to be in Greenland for Ruby deposits; they have large-scale operations in Canada as well. They have an Emerald mine in the Yukon Territory and a Sapphire mine in Nunavut.

True North Gems

Then there are the historic gold mining activities of Nova Scotia that seem to be reviving. Some links on that from last summer:

There are some Canadian outfits doing some large scale heap leach mining in So. Kal. They apparently have very deep pockets and have no problems with the permitting process.

Folks,

Barrick Gold and Goldcorp are a couple of the larger ones that come to mind.
