What a shame! somebody broke into my lawnmower shed and stole $600. worth of equipment. and only now did I install the video camaras. Heck , now they wont comeback and I wont see their smileing faces!

Did the burglars come for the gold only or did they loot the home?

And proof of loss may be highly questionable...possibly over-exaggerated...insurance investigators will have a field day...

Video recordings of a crime only have value if you show it to someone who already knows the person in the video and are willing to take action.
Money is better spent on a burg alarm a shotgun and a shovel.

Dan I "now" have all of that covered! camaras , alarms , lights and "other devices"! I really don't think they'll be back after cleaning me out! it used to be that we never had this kind of trouble in our area ! BUT now everything is changing with new people moveing in and "their friends that come over to see them and my junk!"!!!!!!!!! or should I say what junk I used to have!!

Hopefully the "other devices" aren't booby traps. You'd be opening yourself up to litigation losses far greater than what someone might steal.

My gold stays at the bank and insured through my homeowners policy with a extra policy for all my weapons. 3 heat/motion alarms and stay locked and loaded at all times in my home. Pack away from home as not safe on the streets anymore. My great friend Bob Doelker(RIP) got hit REALLY bad-even worse than this fella-3 thanksgivings back and made him 1 mean dangerous man. Sad to hear but I know of no one dumb enough to keep that much of anything in their home anymore as home invasions are now a national pastime.....sic sic sic world-John

In addition to metal detecting, my other hobby (um, I mean "addiction") is photography.
When I starting buying expensive camera lenses ($6,000 and up - each!!), I decided to take affirmative steps to protect the overall investment.

So, what I did was purchase a safe. Not a cheap gun safe that you might find at a sporting goods stores - I mean something damn difficult to break into!
For me, it was the Fort Knox Maverick series.

Set-up and delivered, with the configuration and options I wanted came in right about $3,000.
It is the best $3,000 I ever spent!

I can now leave the house and not be worried at all.
Yes, I still keep a reasonable amount of homeowner's insurance, but I like knowing my important stuff isn't going anywhere.

BTW: The sporting goods store type safes are OK, but they are mainly designed to stop the grab-n-go thief.
They won't stop somebody with prybars. However, they do "prove" to your insurance carrier that you're not a careless risk, and great for keeping firearms away from children!
(And about 1/4th the price!)

There's a lot more to it. I didn't realize how important the vault construction details were until I finally located a very knowledgeable safe/vault specialist.
I was ready to spend a lot more than I did, but after hearing him out for about an hour, the Maverick line is damn-near the "perfect" safe for residential use (up to maybe about $125k worth of contents).
Heavy (900+ pounds), but perfect.

I realize $3k is a lot of money to spend for some folks, but save up, because in my opinion, a SOLID residential safe is one of the best "investments" you can make!

My wording of "other devices" is for the potential crook to determine! Im NOT saying! If another crook feels "frogy" then he can jump on this and find out what hes going to......................whatever!!! it still can be had by someone that's determined to get it BUT most kids , crackheads , and dumbazzs wont stop to think! and then they'll find out REALITY!

Large gun safe NOT safe in most instances. During the Inaugural Ontario 500 they came into my house and used the tools in my garage(stole all them also) to drill holes in the solid oak floor, used my sawzall and cut away the complete wall and wall lag bolts screwed into the 2 x 4" studs and the floor to remove my monster safe with my engine hoist. If you got enough and they want it bad enough your not really safe. I use banks, not perfect but insured also. Take pics and a $100 or so for insurance pays for a HUGE loss such as this. John

Yes and I feel that that was done by someone visiting my newer neighbor , and then they had some kids do the deed and they paid them!

I caught a guy braking into my house back in 96. I was in high school at the time I was feeling sick one day and stayed home and to my surprise a man came in my mothers window, we met at the kitchen and went at it by the time the cops got there I almost when to jail too. He will think twice next time he does it I had a few scratches he went to the hospital and the cops told me what a bad idea it was to defend my property I should have let him have what ever he wanted and let them deal with it. I'm a disabled vet now next time it will end with only one story mine...

You should have said you were defending your life/safty ....when they are in your home , your life is the most important thing to protect then! screw what the officers said ,you did the right thing for "you"!!!! remember this guys face and name!!!! he may be back to see you in a couple of years!!
