Detector(s) used
Nokta FoRs Gold, a Gold Cube, 2 Keene Sluices and Lord only knows how many pans....not to mention a load of other gear my wife still doesn't know about!
Primary Interest:
Prospecting
It's been a couple years since I've done any prospecting.... Kens death, my
old friend and prospecting partner, really put me off for a while. Just didn't
have much drive to get out there and do the work needed to put gold in
the pan.

Time is said to be a great healer..and this is indeed true. I missed being out
on the creeks and rivers hunting for that elusive speck of color in my pan, and
knew the only cure was to get back out there, meet some new folks and
continue the quest so many of us have been on for a lifetime. For me, that
journey is not so much about the gold, but the people I meet along the
way. This is a good thing, as I suck at prospecting! New friends, new places..
....best medicine there is.

Got to know Jeff (95531) here on the forums, and we chatted a bit via
PM about me making a trip down to N. Cal. after the summer temps
dropped down to livable levels. He made an invite, and I readily accepted.

On this same trip I had hoped to venture down to the Redding area and
do some nugget shooting with Neo Tokyo, Ray (Trinityau) and others,
but was unable to find someone who could help my wife while I was
gone...there's just too many things she can't do on her own. While it
did work out in the end that I was able to stay at Jeff's a few days longer,
I'd had to cancel plans for the Redding trip as it wasn't til the last minute
that a neighbor offered her help.

Left home about 10:30am on the 13th for the 600 mile run down to Jeff's
place near Crescent City, Ca. Easy drive really, except for the last 80 miles
running down Hwy. 199 from Grants Pass to the coast. There actually are
a couple of straight stretches on this road...otherwise it's a snakey run
through canyons with little room for error. As I was driving I got to thinking
about how I used to run this same road twice a month in a Freightliner pulling
a loaded 48' flatbed....hard to imagine I never got myself (or anyone else) killed,
but then driving is one of those things I've always been good at. I wish that
same skill had applied to my prospecting!

Arrived at Jeff's place right at 10pm, and after meeting Jeff and his wife Karen,
I unloaded the truck and set it up for camping. Jeff got a fire going in the
pit, and we settled down to chat for awhile (OK, 3 hrs.:laughing7:) before hitting the
sack with dreams of the paydirt to be found the next day.
