Alaska Beach Mining Video - Shot around 4th of July

Ray was pretty busy so I grabbed some of his footage and helped him edit.
Pretty cool stuff. Group of several guys running different equipment.
Lots of fine gold there. I think a few ounces between the three of them
over two days.

Great video, thanks for sharing. Curious though, that didn't look like the Nome area. As a novice, I was under the impression that was pretty much the only area for beach gold. Can you share where without giving any secrets away? Thanks

No secrets... public beach area in Juneau.
All the gold there is 50 - 300 mesh stuff.
Ray has a bunch of videos on his channel.

Edit I just saw John linked it too, either link will get you to the file. The member Dragline of the AK gold forum did all the hard work I just recompiled the info into a kmz as the original got lost.

Ray was running a 5" floating dredge FYI... but he was having big issues with tides, waves, etc.
So he takes his box off his dredge now and runs a 4" hydro nozzle.
Plus.. the 5" was producing too much water and too heavy of a bedload in the sluice for beach sands.
He also put that video up as well.

Come on Kevin lets get a boat throw a motor on it and go! We can land on beaches like Navy Seals and start digging. Sure we might drown but we might find some good gold too

You need to watch Ray riding his dredge into the harbor like a boat.
He uses the thrust from his pump and a trolling motor.
All the while smoking a cig and shooting video...

I think many of the known locations for gold in AK were found before the age of the helicopter. The prospectors and even the geologists were tough as nails and smart to find so many good spots in the early days there without modern transportation.

I remember reading a story about a guy that rode hundreds of miles on a bike with leather wrapped wheels after they went flat to get to the gold fields back in the early gold rush days

I agree the old timers were a tough bunch... But we have gotten soft and we have better tech... so lets make it easy on ourselves.....
Though there is no doubt the boat would be cheaper and you could haul more gear and supplies.....

As to the bicyclist....... If I remember correctly he rode from Dawson to Nome.... I could be wrong on this one but it is what seems to bubble up from the murky depths of my memory......
