found this story on the local airhead hippie-dippie website in Nevada county:
https://yubanet.com/regional/rise-resources-purchases-idaho-maryland-gold-mine/
Emgold tried to get permitted and gave up in 2011.
I'm not insensitive to environmental concerns, but reopening the Idaho-Maryland would be about 400 badly needed jobs to the mainly tourist/marijuana/retirement economy in Nevada county.
the whole reason Yubanet posted this (unsaid) was to get the local call-to-arms of the environuts to put a stop to it.
the Idaho-Maryland at one time was the second largest lode gold mine in California.
hopefully the project can get restarted in the near future.
now, on the other hand, I oppose some mining strictly on the basis that if it adversely affects people living in the the area, it shouldn't be allowed. one such example is here:
Water for gold | TheUnion.com
the folks I know who live nearby, including a school, have had issues with their water since the San Juan mining corp. hit a fault and drained local wells. when the water table got restored, the water was contaminated.
the company has tried to get repermitted, but has strong opposition from local residents.
