Got out yesterday for some gold panning and metal detecting with the XP Deus with the new 9" HF coil. Please believe me when I tell you that this thing picks up the tiniest specks of gold.

I was running in 58.8kHz and was finding specks of gold so small, I could barely see them.

This nugget right here weighs in at half a gram and it damn near blew my headphones off. It was a good day... 20170527_163939.jpg 20170527_163926.jpg 20170527_163832.jpg 20170527_163820.jpg 20170527_200627.jpg 20170527_200651.jpg 20170527_200511.jpg

You ain't kidding. Until now, the biggest nugget from NH I've ever seen with my own eyes was .19 grams and was found by a friend while crevassing.

Thanks. Yeah, I'll definitely be back. You know, they say every nugget has its own personality, and looking at this thing, I can totally see it.

Yeah, I've seen quite a few come out of there. One was a 9.2 gram nugget. We rode up to the Twin Rivers Campground, but then went to a different spot on a brook about ten miles from there to do some mossing and to see what the XP Deus had to say about the situation. That's when I found that half gram nugget.

This is mossing, but check with local rules first -- it may not be legal everywhere:

I guess rule #1 is don't get caught. How can destroying vegetation along stream banks be legal anywhere? Our GPAA group in MA lost the use of a nice panning stream due to digging in the bank and causing a tree to fall. The owner heavily posted both sides. So little gain, lost so much.

Mossing not legal in the White mountain National Forest. Also all the new rules in Maine are do to digging in the banks. A scenic river in Maine pretty much destroyed. Another a logging road was washed out. I know thats were a lot of gold is. But unless its on your own land. Respect others. Keep prospecting alive. I know its very temping.

I'll check further into the legality of it, but that's honestly the first I've ever heard of such a thing. And by mossing, I don't mean digging into the banks. I know that's illegal. I was talking about scraping the moss off the bedrock and checking it for gold and checking the cracks underneath the moss as well. This doesn't lead to erosion...it's bedrock.

Here is the number for NHDES Wetlands Bureau. 603-271-2147. Please let us know what they say.

I see the same crap going on in VT where they are high above the water with sledge hammers and pry bars ripping the rock apart and throwing it into the stream. It's still the bank. The State does not specify dirt or rock.
