Scientists are "re-purposing" the closed Homestake Gold Mine in Lead
S. Dakota for use in an experiment. As part of the renovation, they will
mine/extract 870,000 tons of rock/ore in order to make room for their
equipment and facilities.
The mine was no longer financially viable in 2002; this after miners had
removed 41 million ounces of gold over the years.
Article says they are going to "crush and remove" the material, but
it fails to say what the end game is for all that [potentially rich] ore.
So what will become of it? Road gravel..driveways?
