I just don’t like Dustin. He’s an arrogant SOB. That new guy who’s Fred’s gf son was just a greenhorn and he was talking mad crap about him. Yes I realize Dustin would have stomped a mud hole in him but the old boy should have at least bottle slapped him

I think the problem is these millennials are use to getting praised for each little thing they do and when they don’t get it for “hard labor” they run to their safe space. Welcome to the real world. Whatever it may be this, sales, construction etc... green peas have to earn it first and I’m not talking about just 1 month.

Looks like 1 down and more to go. Looks like too dumb to run a air system even with 2-dual piston compressors/dual reserves in a couple of feet of water. freds snitch looks/acts like a wussy-John

That’s true but with the hard work everyone deserves a good job sometimes. It’s not just millennials. I’ve seen it in all age groups, but a rookie does deserve a atta boy every now and then. Plus seeing what all he did I think anyone would have been a little worn out

I see your point except from my experience it more in this younger generation of today ( not all, not all, but most), but yes a “good job” never hurt anyone. If you’re doing exceptionally well over what your job entails then you should be recognized and I think you will. Hell on a oil rig a roustabout is treat hard and I mean hard but at the end he’s as strong as iron and will earn the respect of his peers. It is a great feeling. Being in both I think manual work and office work are to different animals, but respect them both.

Build people up by treating them with respect, encouragement, praise, mentor-ship and leadership. Not by being an *******. If you Build people up by putting them down... You're doing it wrong.

Correct but in this case he didn’t get the praise when he wanted it and felt disrespected when they gave praise to the newcomer with some experience on his back. I’m sure if the young buck hangs in there all of that will come and more :)))

Furthermore I think he learned that way of working from his farther. Which I agree doesn’t make it right but doesn’t make it wrong.

I could certainly be wrong but wasn't the greenhorn guy catching heat for not doing the job how he was told? Hard to build someone up when they can't follow simple directions. Probably all fake drama at that campfire scene for the sake of TV anyway...

Truth - I definitely think the greenhorn is a little thin in the backbone area(unfortunately, some of that was probably for the show, i.e. drama), should have just done his job and not SEEKED praise. Just do what your told and be done with it. From what i remember, he wasnt told how to get it done. He was just told to get boards down to them. Not an easy task for ONE man on the side of a steep mountainside. I'd probably be pissed too if all they did was hound me for how i got it done, despite getting it DONE. Dustin seems unnecessarily dickish imo. But they're everywhere. Know your crowd and how to react/handle em.

What - From what I remember, they never told him HOW to do it.(or at least they never showed us explaining how exactly hes supposed to get all this wood to the bottom) They just said get us boards down to the bottom of the hill. One man, steep hillside, lots 8-10ft pieces of lumber that are NOT lightweight. Not saying the greenhorn did it right, but I dont think he did it "wrong" either. He just didnt do it the way Dustin wanted it. Then again, ive never met someone who could read someone elses mind...

What we have here... is a failure... to communicate.

I put the first episode on and fell asleep, it's definitely discovery channel drama. The whole giving the green horn poop deal I'm pretty sure was discovery being discovery. The reality is the kid would make 1 trip on a cage in an actual mine and then run for his safe space never to return again.

I've said it time and time again mining is boring, really boring when done right. Dirt moves or rock gets broken, ore gets processed, maintenance occurs to prevent break downs, when something breaks it gets fixed. Miners are used to dealing with "dangers" on a daily basis and usually don't make a big deal out of it being "life or death" like discovery does.

This show/season finale broke my heart. They worked so hard and got so close! I can't see how they cant get down to bedrock quicker. All they would need is two divers and a conveyor they can stick in the water to drop the rocks on there and that hole will empty quick

I was really routing for them.

Sure seemed like there was a lot of wasted time when there could have been a diver in the water. They had what, 4 people who could dive? One would get done and they would just go back to camp instead of throwing another guy in. Serves them right for not finishing. I do agree that it would be heartbreaking to think about having to dredge out that hole again when they were so close to the bottom.
